Congress must censure President Trump over Charlottesville remarks.
President Trump's remarks about the white nationalist march in Charlottesville, VA that resulted in the death of three people are chilling and anti-American. His remarks have been celebrated by white nationalists such as former Klu Klux Klan leader David Duke and Richard Spencer. His remarks have created an unsafe climate for African-Americans, Jewish Americans, LGBTQ Americans, immigrant Americans, and all Americans of color. Congress must act to censure the president for his remarks that gave aid and comfort to white nationalists, white supremacists and Neo-Nazis. The nation cannot allow his statements to pass without official and immediate censure. It is not enough for Senators and Congressmen to issue press releases or tweet their concern, there must be clear and powerful censure of the president. It can be the Senate or the House, or it can be a first ever joint censure, but the country must see moral leadership from Congress where we have seen none from the White House. We urge all Congresspeople to immediately work in a bi-partisan fashion to introduce and pass a censure of the president over his incendiary and anti-American remarks.
