SAVE THE COUSE PASTURE
The Town of Taos wants to rezone the lower 9 acres of the Couse Pasture facing Los Pandos from R-14 (Residential - 14 units per acre) to CBD, dense Commercial zoning. This means that a large grocery store complex, other retail stores, car repair shop, car wash, gas station, restaurant and other heavy uses could be built on this land. Heavy commercial usage so close to the Historic District is not consistent with the scale of development in Taos. To allow this commercial encroachment into a residential neighborhood sets a bad precedent and diminishes us all. An acequia (historic water course) bisects the Couse Pasture (Parcel #13 on the map). Horses graze on the upper portion. Allowing heavy commercial usage would destroy the peace and quiet of the neighbors on Los Pandos, Montoya and Quesnel while reducing their property values as well as threatening the integrity of the acequia and ecosystem. Your vote here against the rezoning is not legally binding but is, instead, an indication of the public will which is being ignored by this Administration.
