Let us keep our Vatican II hymnals!
We, the undersigned members of the St. John the Apostle parish in Leesburg, would like to urge you our pastor, Fr. Kevin Larson, to keep the Vatican II hymnals in our church. We are not interested in having seasonal hymnals. The Vatican II hymnals are comprehensive and cover the readings of all Sundays and important Church feasts for the three-year cycles A, B, and C, our kids love the beautiful sacred art illustrating the hymnal, and they were acquired at great cost ($12,000 ?) to the parish and are now paid for—there are currently 614 copies in the main church. Seasonal hymnals are expensive and an ongoing expenditure, are not attractive, but flimsy, become mangy toward the end of the season they cover, usually illustrated with outdated artwork, and would require a lot of work to update each time a new edition has to be put into the pews.
