Abolish the horrible VA Hospital system and create a VA version of Medicaid/Medicare
The VA Hospital System needs to be turned over to the private sector and Veterans should be issued an insurance card just like Medicare/Medicaid and allow Veterans to seek medical care from the private sector which would probably be cheaper because there is no facility and support staff expense with the controversial yearly expense of art for the facilities. This would provide better service closer to home and cost the tax payer less. My experience, Prosthetics taking 6-9 months or more to order diabetic shoes. Having appointments made with Doctors or for tests especially in the radiology department then having them cancelled or rescheduled without reason just to make it appear they are not taking 30 or more days to obtain services. Refusing to allow the use of the Choice Program based off the rule that if you have a VA medical facility within 40 miles of your home then you do not qualify even though the services needed are not offered at that facility so you are requried to travel well over the 40 miles from your home. For me about 80 miles one way. I have complained to the individual departments, department supervisors, Doctors, patients advocates, hospital administrators, hospital directors, and congressmen. All have failed to address the problems. The treatment by the Veterans Administration is just inexcusable and needs to be abolished.
