VicRoads stop being inhumane to animals.
What Policy do VicRoads have in place regarding family pets and other animals found deceased on public roads? Do Council's have a Policy in place when they forward a call to VicRoads about a deceased animal? DUMPED like trash by VICROADS!It's time they told us what is happening to our pets!At 730pm on Friday evening a beautiful family pet escaped her yard in Thomastown. At 7.45pm a member of the public contacted the Whittlesea Council after hours contact and reported a deceased dog on the left shoulder exit of Edgars Road Thomastown. The Council employee then contacted VicRoads as they are not able to attend on major roads. On Sunday afternoon, Mark the owner of the dog was still frantically looking for his dog. He posted his dog Sasha missing on a facebook lost pets group. Sasha was microchipped, wearing a collar and Council registered. Mark was informed that it was possible that it might have been Sasha that had been reported to VicRoads Friday evening, but that they hadn't picked up the dogs body instead they had dumped it over a concrete barrier into a pile of rubbish. This sadly is not an isolated incident. Sasha did not deserve to be treated in this appallingly inhumane manner. She should have been picked up and scanned and her body given back to her family in a decent compassionate manner. VicRoads this is the second time over the past few years that this issue has been raised, and the public have grown tired of your poor excuses.
Reform the Muswellbrook Shire Council Animal Shelter
We request that Muswellbrook Shire Council improve the conditions for the animals impounded at their Shelter asap.Several years ago this Shelter had a very good reputation and a low kill rate. So, what has changed at this Shelter over the past five years or so? Recently 2 dogs named Buddy and Bandit were surrendered there. Both dogs were desexed, microchipped and lifetime registered. Their owners paid $102 surrender fees to this Pound for them to be rehomed. If per chance someone had seen Bandit and Buddy and wanted to adopt them, they had to be able to attend the pound between noon and 2pm weekdays to do that. From 11 April until kill day 21st April there were only 5 days that were not WEEKEND or PUBLIC HOLIDAYS. This Council and Pound offered Bandit and Buddy ONLY a total of 10 hours to be adopted and saved. This pound does not have a website that lists available dogs and cats. They only have a Facebook page where they post a photo of the animals but they won't respond to messages or comments and they don't have Albums of current dogs or list adoption prices or opening times for the pound. This is not good enough!
Justice For Grizz
Justice for Grizz a Runaway Aviation Security dog who was needlessly shot dead by police after holding up flights at Auckland Airport on March 17th 2017. Poor little Grizz wasn't even on the tarmac at the time they shot him! An Aviation Security Services dog named Grizz was shot dead by police after it was spooked and escaped its handler at Auckland International Airport this morning, causing runway delays. Police shot the dog, named Grizz, at the direction of Auckland Airport staff. "Auckland Airport staff directed police to shoot the Avsec dog, which was loose at the airport this morning," said Inspector Tracy Phillips. Justice for Fi an Innocent Pup killed by RSPCA
Maddie's FOSTER DOG Fi was killed at the RSPCA Rutherford NSW Shelter on Feb 12th 2017. This is Fi's story.. Today this dog was deemed "too dangerous to be rehomed" and was killed. I received a phone call today from the RSPCA saying Fi had been brought back in by her new owner because she got too playful and grabbed his arm. The new owner didn't even have her for 24 hours to let her settle in clearly being overwhelmed by a new house and excitement. He took her back and signed documents deeming her "too violent" although he had admitted to her just being too playful for him and his family. The RSPCA told me she could not be rehomed and they were putting her to sleep. I begged and pleaded against this and offered to pick her up and adopt her myself. They said no she's already been deemed too vicious. So their next best solution is just to call it a day and kill her? I have fostered her for a month now and she has never once been violent or vicious. I have been fostering though the RSPCA for a while now and they believed a stranger who only had Fi for the night over me who has fostered numerous dogs for them. All I wanted was for this gorgeous girl to go to a loving forever home that she deserved so much and now due to the ignorance and unprofessional strategies of the Hunter Shelter this poor girl is now back, dead at the rspca. They have no right to play god and just dispose of such a gorgeous creature because an illegitimate document was signed by a stranger. They're suppose to help dogs not murder them.
Registry and Regulation and a standard Code of Practise in all Boarding Kennels.
Currently in NSW and around other Australian States Boarding Kennels are not being properly overseen. We ask for Animal Welfare agencies like the RSPCA to get more involved in the Kennels and undertake inspections of these Kennels regularly. Kennels in NSW at the moment only have to adhere to local Council DA guidelines. The NSW DPI ( Dept of Primary Industries) have a NSW Animal Welfare Code of Practice No 5 - Dogs and cats in animal boarding establishments, although it covers a lot this Code doesn't appear to be being followed by all establishments. Call now for a Standard Code of Practise to ensure a Standard level of care for animals in all Animal Boarding Kennels. A Registry also needs to be established to record any animal deaths in the Boarding Kennels across NSW and other Australian States. This Registry will allow for some peace of mind for animal owners and ensure accountability of the Kennels.
