NO NEW DOLPHINS - NO NEW WHALES
at the Vancouver Aquarium
Whales and dolphins are highly intelligent and social animals who suffer greatly in captivity. The Vancouver Aquarium used to keep orca whales but after they all died and only one was left in the show tank, public protest and government intervention pushed the Aquarium to ship its last orca away and close that whale tank forever in 2001. On May 24, 2015, another dolphin died at the Aquarium - leaving only one remaining dolphin performing in the show tank. In November 2016, the last two surviving beluga whales died at the Aquarium. The beluga tank is empty. The Aquarium plans to continue bringing performing whales and dolphins to re-fill the tanks, but the Vancouver Park Board has the power to stop that from happening. The remaining dolphin should be shipped away and the Aquarium should close that show tank forever. It was the right thing to do for the orcas and it is the right thing to do for the dolphins and beluga whales. NO NEW DOLPHINS! NO NEW WHALES!
