Politicians (Local, State or Federal) should pay for by-elections that they cause.
Federal member, Joe Hockey, resigned from the Australian Government because his preferred Prime Minister (and friend),Tony Abbott, lost the Prime Ministership. There was no real reason for Hockey to resign as his party had quite a while to serve before the next Federal election, except that he was 'upset'. This same guy, as Federal Treasurer, gave us the line that the 'age of entitlement' was over but, here he is (after Tony Abbott was 'rolled'), causing the Australian Taxpayer to pay for a by-election of his creation. The LNP is not the only guilty party here as Anna Blight (ALP) was returned in her State (Qld) seat, but lost the Premiership to Campbell Newman (LNP) so she resigned, and created another by-election. This waste of Taxpayer funds has got to stop, and I propose that the elected representative who resigns prematurely, whether they be local, State or Federal reps, should be made pay for the by-election out of their substantial superannuation. Hockey has now been appointed the new Australian Ambassador to the United States of America - another job for the boys !!
