Remove the tax on air conditioning at The Bargain Box, Rye
The Bargain Box is on the verge of closure due to a tax on air conditioning. This is a tax many people in business have not heard of. It seems it has been imposed and back dated for years, which means it runs into thousands of pounds. This tax appears to be an optional tax that can be imposed and The Bargain Box is the only premises (apart from the library which is run by East Sussex County Council with public money) in the town to be charged. This is not fair. The Bargain Box is a well loved Rye shop- providing an important service to the town- with hard working owners who deserve to be treated better. They would be sorely missed. Though living out of the area myself now, I moved to Rye back in 1999 and my family are still living in Rye- we all appreciate the Bargain Box's unique qualities and the great value goods that are sold there. This shop is part of Rye and must be protected. We ask that Amber Rudd demand that this Rother tax be cancelled.
