Cap apartment rent increases for those who live from fixed incomes.
15 years ago is when I needed and asked for help from the state of NJ and the country I was born and worked in. Due to chronic pain and other health issues, it was no longer possible for me to work enough hours in order to support myself financially. Unfortunately, my situation has not changed. I have lived in an apartment for 16 years. I see an increase in my rent every year. The increase I may get from Social Security Disability and the other programs that are assisting me, do not make up the difference. Because of this, it is necessary for me to give up certain medical treatments which are not covered by insurance just so that my basic needs are taken care of. As a way of preventing possible homelessness, added and worsened health problems, emotional stress and going into debt, I'm asking the state and federal governments to sincerely consider putting a cap on rent increases for those who are dependent on a fixed income. Please consider signing my petition or pass it on to someone who would benefit from this change.
