President Obama Intervene At Standing Rock, Stop The Violence And Mediate A Solution
Dear President Obama, Our Native Americans and concerned citizens, to include US Veterans, are protecting Sacred Lands at Standing Rock. Violence against these water protectors needs to stop and an agreeable solution reached. We are requesting from you and your administration an immediate intervention to cease all violence against these protectors. You yourself Sir said in a recent interview that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was considering rerouting the Dakota Access Pipeline to accommodate the "sacred lands of Native Americans," sparking speculation over the fate of the controversial crude oil pipeline. This is not happening. A previously proposed route for the 1,172-mile pipeline had it crossing the Missouri River north of Bismarck, North Dakota, according to a document filed as part of the permitting process. The eventual route that was decided on, and is currently in construction, moved the water crossing of the crude oil pipeline south of the North Dakota capital, to just upstream of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe's reservation. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers granted builders a permit allowing the pipeline to cross under the Missouri River at a place called Lake Oahe, which is just about half a mile North of the the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation. The Standing Rock Sioux get their water from the Missouri River and any oil spill puts their supply at risk. The construction will dig up, and in fact has already unEarthed Sioux sacred burial sites. Most Sincerely, All who have signed this petition.
