Mary Ann Snow
I am a 60 year old American that is struggling to make a living and prepare for retirement. I was a caretaker for my parents for 20+ years. I also have rheumatoid arthritis so my retirement and benefits are incredibly important to me. I believe that as an American that votes in every election I am an employer of the members of the Congress. Congress has come to the point where they are not performing the job that they have been elected to do. For that reason I am demanding, as one of the millions of citizens of this country, that Congress enact the following: 1. No tenure and no pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office. I believe that if we have to live on social security of $2000 per month they should too. They do NOT deserve a retirement of $15000 a month. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates WITH the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. If my company were to touch the funds in my 401(k) they would be committing a felony. Yet Congress sticks their fingers in the Social Security fund any time they wish to. The Social Security fund should be off limits. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/16. The American people did NOT make these contracts with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term’s [sic], then go home and back to work. I borrowed these conditions from Warren Buffett, obviously one of the most brilliant men in this country. Congress has become a disgusting group of greedy people who consider themselves above the citizens of this country. They are getting wealthy at our expense and I for one am sick of it. This is NOT about political parties, it is about much much more. It is about the very future of this country.
Repairing Congress and the budget
I am a tax paying citizen of this country who struggles to make a living and prepare for retirement. I was also a caretaker of my parents for 20+ years. I am tired of the way Congress behaves in regards to doing the job that they are elected to do. They put themselves above the citizens of this country as well as the law and grant themselves wealth they do not deserve and have not earned. They put personal and party concerns above the needs of this country and her citizens. I, as a voting citizen of this country, believe I am an employer of the members of Congress. I am demanding that Congress, as employees of the citizens of this country do the following: (1) abolish the congressional pension plan and move all funds to social security. They receive a salary while in Congress and they should retire on social security like the rest of the citizens of this country. If we have to live on $2000 a month, they should too. (2) If Congress wants a retirement plan they can purchase it like all other American citizens. (3) Congress can no longer vote for their own pay raises. Their pay will increase by the lower of CPI or 3%. (4) Congress will lose their current health care system and participate in the same health care system that the American people do. (5) Congress must equally abide by the same laws they impose on the American people. (6) All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/16. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their elected term’s, then go home and go back to work. Congress currently has a pension plan that pays them $15000 per month while they are telling citizens that they will cut social security benefits as well as medicare and military benefits. This is unacceptable behavior. This is about more than any political party, it's about the future of this country.
