Remove Howie Rose as New York Islanders Broadcaster
The New York Islanders have had a long and storied history, winning four straight Stanley Cups in the early 1980s. The team has long-suffered since the early 1990s, not winning the Cup since then, and not surpassing the post-season first round since 1993. The team is poised to change that this year, preparing to face off against the Florida Panthers. Islanders fans are champing at the bit for an extended playoff experience. One thing must change, namely Howie Rose as our play-by-play man. We, the undersigned, wish for Howie to be replaced *immediately* by Jiggs McDonald. Jiggs is a beloved figure in the Islanders family and can be a timely replacement. Jiggs lives in Florida, has broadcast several games this year and knows the team. We ask for the removal of Howie for reasons included, but not limited to: 1. He was an announcer for that “other” New York team; that alone is cause for removal. 2. He was caught on-air unaware that his mic was on, disparaging our team during a particularly challenging year. If bad-mouthing the team you broadcast for is not grounds for dismissal, I don’t know what is. 3. This is really the final straw for us: during the last game of this season, April 10, 2016, while the playoff seeding had not yet been confirmed, the Islanders were playing the Philadelphia Flyers. If the Islanders won the game, they would play the Pittsburgh Penguins, a very skilled and experienced team. If they lost, they would play the Panthers, a team with not as much experience, so maybe the easier team to beat. On that evening, Howie said *at least* a dozen times that Islander fans might be hoping for a loss, so that they would wind up playing the Panthers. This has enraged us to no end, so we demand that Howie Rose be immediately and permanently replaced.
