Give United Way more time to provide Canadians the opportunity to tour the Kingston Penitentiary
Last year we were told that the infamous Kingston Penitentiary was to be closed down this year. This prison was built in 1833 and holds some of the most interesting history Canada has. It has held notorious criminals such as Grace Marks, Edwin Boyd, Roger Caron, Clifford Olsen, Paul Bernardo and Russel Williams. Canadians and especially Ontarians have followed the stories of criminals held there for almost 2 centuries. Many of which feel cheated the opportunity that the Correctional Service of Canada has given to few - to view the historic insides. The United Way serving Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington apologised on their Facebook page stating, "Sorry but all tickets have been sold. Corrections Canada provided the opportunity for 3 weeks in total for which we are grateful. We have maximized the opportunity by offering as many tours and tickets as possible." Postmedia News reports the last batch of the 9,000 available tickets disappeared quicker than spots at a One Direction club stand — 2,000 tickets in less than half an hour. The tickets have a face value of $20, with proceeds going to United Way. People online are desperately trying to obtain tickets and are even willing to pay 5 times that amount! If CSC gave the United Way more time who knows how many tickets would sell and how much money they could raise! If people are willing to pay, are upset because they can't, and there is no harm in giving them this amazing opportunity all while raising money then WHY NOT!? With this petition and everybody I see communicating about this I'm hoping CSC will do something about it and quick!
