Petition to Mr. Wei Tao, Yulin Mayor
Shut Down the Yulin Dog Meat Festival!
Did you know, every year, on the summer solstice, thousands of dogs are rounded up to be eaten in Yulin, China as part of a Dog Meat Festival? We believe that this cruel “festival” has no place in the 21st century. Help us end this cruel "festival" and trade:https://www.change.org/f/help-dogs-like-ellie-saved-from-yulin-slaughterhouse?source_location=petition_show There are so many reasons to end this horrific festival -- warning, the following information may be upsetting. The Yulin Dog Meat Festival is also a dangerous food safety issue. Dogs sold on the market are sick, poisoned and dying animals. They suffer from horrendous conditions during the long distance, trans-provincial journeys, many days without food and water and may carry contagious disease. We appeal to you to act in the interest of public health, food safety, animal welfare, and the image of Guangxi and China. The Yulin Dog Meat Festival is a business operation that undermines the national and public interest. The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region government is at a historical juncture. The Dog Meat Festival must end. By signing our petition, you’re joining a global movement with like-minded people who want to shut down this heinous festival and trade. In the coming weeks and months, you’ll have the opportunity to be involved in both online and in-person events happening around the world. Thank you, Duo Duo Animal Welfare Project (www.duoduoproject.org)
Petition to Xi Jinping, Terry Branstad, Chen Wu
End the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. #StopYulin
There is a festival in Yulin, China, where local merchants kill thousands of dogs to sell their meat to festival goers. This terrible festival has to stop. And we want to have our voices heard. In 2017, the Chinese government announced measures against sellers of dog meat, such as fines. But they gave up shortly before the start of the Yulin dog meat festival. Since 2009, activists estimate that as many as 15,000 dogs are killed for the Yulin. And it was only with societal pressure that the Chinese government considered ending the sale of dog meat in 2017. We need to keep up the pressure this year! As a global community, sign and share today to help end Yulin and the dog meat trade. Our goal is to launch a major campaign with thousands of signatures, and deliver it to the Chinese embassy. Let's show our outrage! We want the Chinese government to commit to animal rights. We respect the people and culture of China, and we understand that there are many Chinese who are also against the Yulin Festival, as this article shows. Read this excerpt from the story: "More and more Chinese are campaigning to ban the annual festival held on the summer solstice." Let's join those who are against the Yulin Festival! I hope that activists from other countries are inspired by our action and also create campaigns in their countries!
Petition to American Kennel Club
American Kennel Club: Boycott the World dog show 2019 in China.
This petition urges the American Kennel Club to boycott the World Dog Show held in China in 2019. For China to be awarded the World Dog Show by the FCI is an astonishment in itself, given the extreme cruelty they inflict on dogs, most notably in the Dog Meat Trade and the Yulin Festival, where millions of dogs - some stolen pets - are tortured and slaughtered for their meat every year. But for other nations to participate in this show is an insult to everything we in the civilised world stand for. How can we take part in an event celebrating dogs when the host country inflicts unspeakable abuse and torment on them? Boiled alive, skinned alive, callously beaten and maimed, China has proven time and time again that they have no respect or love for man's best friend; but here in the United States, we do. We strongly condemn such inconceivable cruelty and that is why we, the people, urge the American Kennel Club to announce their withdrawal from this event to immediate effect. Boycotting this event is the only way to send the message to China that their treatment towards dogs is unacceptable; we urge the American Kennel Club to take a lead role in sending this message loud and clear. So far, the British Kennel Club stands alone in its refusal to attend the WDS in China; we ask that the United States stands with them to show China that its barbaric and inhumane treatment of dogs will not be tolerated. The FCI claims that hosting the World Dog Show in China will help build a bond between the Chinese people and dogs; this is ineffective and will ultimately prove unsuccessful. China will only yield to international criticism, not attempts at building bridges. The only way we can show them our disapproval is by boycotting the World Dog Show 2019, which may jilt them into implementing animal cruelty laws that their country desperately needs. Please sign this petition. We are a nation of dog lovers and China's treatment of dogs goes against absolutely everything we ourselves stand for. We cannot allow the United States of America, a country where we pride ourselves on our love and respect for dogs, to be affiliated with this outrageous event. We must make a stand and let China know we do not tolerate their abuse of animals. Please also join our group below, Operation Hound, which aims to put a halt to China's hosting of the World Dog Show and will attempt to 'flood' the White House with letters to expose the barbarity and cruelty of the dog meat trade. Please join us in this fight. Operation Hound - join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1954614731419993/
Petition to United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
The dog meat trade in Asia is an unregulated industry imposing dangerous health risks.
For more actions you can take please visit: http://koreandogs.org/fao/ This is petition addressed to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization: The dog meat trade in Asia is an unregulated industry imposing dangerous health risks. Dear United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization: We are reaching out to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations help put an end to the dog meat trade in Asia. As an international organization dedicated to the eradication of hunger and to the proper use of natural resources to maintain sustainable food sources, you have the ability to use your organization and influence to bring awareness to this subject. In South Korea alone, 2.5 million dogs are slaughtered and consumed each year. The farming and methods of slaughter are unregulated, and this allows the meat trade industry to practice in an entirely uncontrolled environment. The methods utilized in this poorly regulated industry are barbaric, and the conditions under which these animals are kept are horrendous. The health risks to humans are all too real. By the time these dogs are slaughtered, they are so sick with untreated broken bones, infections and malnutrition, that anyone who has not themselves witnessed the documentaries of this practice has no idea that the meat that is going into their “health soup” has been harvested in the most disgusting and unsanitary fashion. The slaughter methods themselves are nothing short of sadistic and inhumane. They promote the misguided belief that the adrenaline release which occurs at death improves the quality of the meat, so that the dogs are purposefully tortured and made to experience extreme fear and suffering at slaughter. This often takes the form of prolonged beatings while being hanged, and smaller dogs and cats are boiled alive to make “tonics” which are purported to treat ailments such as rheumatism. It has been well-documented that the treatment of these dogs is unimaginably cruel and inhumane. From birth to death they are kept in cramped cages raised off of the ground, so that their feet never touch the ground their entire lives. They are fed food wastes in extremely unsanitary conditions. Their treatment during transport to slaughter is horrific. They are packed so tightly into cages like stuffed animals that many die from being crushed by the weight of the other dogs. They must endure extreme heat and cold, and are given no water during the days-long trek, so that many die of dehydration. We are asking you to help bring awareness and a solution to this problem. Thank you, ------------------------------------------- For more actions you can take, please visit: http://koreandogs.org/fao/
Petition to South Korean Government, President Moon Jae-In
President Moon Jae-In: Please stop the torture and consumption of dogs and cats in Korea.
Our goal is 300,000 signatures. Please sign and share for the Korean dogs and cats. For more actions you can take please visit: http://koreandogs.org/president-moon-end-dmt/ Thank you! Dear President Moon Jae-In and the South Korean Government, Please watch this documentary: https://youtu.be/cCdTceduKcY I am extremely upset about the torture and consumption of companion animals in South Korea. With the ubiquity of social medias, every day we are seeing shocking and heartbreaking images and videos of innocent dogs being tortured and killed in your country. Even though Korea has established an Animal Protection Law for companion animals, dogs are still beaten, hung, electrocuted, and treated brutally by farmers and slaughters. Also, dogs and cats are still being beaten and boiled alive for so-called elixirs, which do not have medical properties except in the minds of ignorant and gullible customers. These practices have no place in the modern world. Other Asian countries have banned the eating of dog meat and the cruel industry that goes with it, such as Taiwan and the Philippines. Why does Korea persist in lagging behind these countries and other civilized societies? It’s the responsibility of the Korean government to once and for all end the cruel dog meat and cat medicine industries in Korea. It is time to dismiss the childish myths and propaganda surrounding these industries and their vile products. It is time to leave behind backward and unnecessary traditions. And it is time for Korea to start taking animal welfare seriously and show that it really does have a compassionate and ethical society. That means it is time for the Korean government to start better educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering, about not abandoning pets, and about treating animals in a proper manner. Until these things are done, Korea’s reputation in the international community will continue to suffer. Its citizens will continue to face shame and embarrassment. And Korea will continue to be regarded as “third world,” despite its modernization and attempts at globalized thinking. From now on, I will boycott Korean products, and I will not support Korean companies or visit Korea until the abuse of cats and dogs has finally ended. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For the translation of this petition in Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Hungarian, visit: http://koreandogs.org/what-you-can-do/contacts-for-protest/sample-protest-letter/

Please sign this petition to provide a voice to the animals under the care of the Korean people, speak up for them and for all supporters of basic animal rights in Korea. We are asking to amend the constitution for the betterment of all animals. Dogs raised for meat do not benefit from the protection from cruel or inhumane treatment afforded under Korea's animal protection law. In the present legal system 'meat dogs' are regarded as objects, mere property, with no right to food, water, light or shelter or indeed to be protected from cruelty or abuse by humans. The law reflects the ludicrous view that that these dogs are for slaughter anyway so they should not be protected and that they are somehow different to companion dogs. This is of course complete and utter nonsense, there is no such difference between dogs raised for meat and dogs raised as pets. Many 'meat dogs' in slaughter houses resemble the revered Korean Jindo or Japanese Tosa, often contain pure breed lines, there is no specific 'breed' of 'meat dog', there are no genetic or behavioral differences between your faithful companion and family guardian and the poor suffering animal locked in an endless row of wire cages. Even if these dogs were to be afforded protection under the current Korean animal protection law, how would South Korea aim to enforce it when there is such a thriving industry in the meat dog trade? We have a black hole in Korea's legislation in which these poor dogs are placed, born to suffer and die at the hands of money making dog farmers. A black hole which is being exploited by the often illegally operated dog meat farmers and butchers. Therefore, affirmative action needs to be taken now to ensure that the constitution is amended to address this black hole in the law. The Government would do well to take note of how some of the leading countries recognise animal welfare and rights and listen to the international condemnation of the dog meat trade within its borders. Petition to Minister Lee Gae-Ho, Ho-Young Ahn, Dae-Shik Jo, Joon-Kook Hwang, Kyoung-Ha Woo
Minister Lee Gae-Ho: Support and Pass the new Animal Protection Law in South Korea!
Minister Lee Gae-Ho (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs), time and again the work of SaveKoreanDogs, in their struggle to end the aberrant dog-meat trade in South Korea, has been made more difficult, as their requests to the authorities, for action to enforce the various Laws relating to illegal acts committed within these trades, have met with little success - in some part because of the way the various animal/food related Acts are worded. For example: ‘dogs’ are classified as livestock in the Enforcement Rule of the Livestock Industry Act; and the wording within the Animal Protection Act currently allows for dog slaughterhouses to continue their work unchallenged - even the illegal ones. In addition, the penalties for wrongdoers punished under the Animal Protection Act are too minimal to be a deterrent; the Police etc., have inadequate training and knowledge to deal with any infringements of these Laws; and there is no separate Animal Welfare Department within South Korea. Therefore, in order for SaveKoreanDogs to gain official support in their endeavours, and intervention in this illegal, inhumane and brutal dog-meat trade, it is imperative that changes are made to wording within these relevant Acts, and also that changes are made within the official ‘system’. One of the most important changes being requested is to remove dogs from the classification of livestock in the Enforcement Rule of the Livestock Industry Act. SaveKoreanDogs (Nami Kim and her team) have drafted a detailed proposal for changes, and are asking that you accept them. Mr Lee Gae-Ho, as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, you have the authority to help make these changes happen: will you consider these changes, will you accept them, and will you help put them into practice? ------------------------------------- Click to read a statement by Mr. Pyo Chang Won, the chairman of the Animal Welfare Committee at the National Assembly of Korea, who is the author of the new amendment to the Animal Protection Law: http://koreandogs.org/dog-animal-protection-law-changwon-pyo/ Our thanks and gratitude is extended to Nami Kim of SaveKoreanDogs who submitted a proposal to Mr. Pyo, detailing recommendations for changes to the Animal Protection Law. Petition to Mayor James C. Ledford of Palmdale
Tell Friendship City, Yeoncheon, Korea, That We’re Opposed to Torture/Eating of Dogs/Cats.
Mayor James C. Ledford of Palmdale, these are the facts; now we urge you to join us in telling Friendship City, Yeoncheon, South Korea, that we’re opposed to the torture and consumption of dogs and cats. City of Palmdale has become Friendship City with Yeoncheon, South Korea. This relationship was no doubt formed in the spirit of friendship and for their mutual benefit, for business links and trade etc. And, while City of Palmdale would have expected to learn about the differences in cultural practices of the Yeoncheon citizens, we feel certain that the Palmdale authorities would have hesitated to form such a Friendship City relationship had they known about the aberrant and cruel practices routinely carried out in the dog and cat meat trades in Yeoncheon and all over South Korea. Lucrative, but illegal trades which carry on unchallenged: with no enforcement of the laws and no punishment for those violating them. South Korea is the home to global companies, such as Hyundai, Kia, Samsung, LG, Daewoo, SK and POSCO, which is why it is so shocking that an estimated 2.5 million dogs are tortured and slaughtered every year within South Korea, because of the greed of dog eaters and the dog meat industry; while the majority of those Koreans, who don’t actually participate in this offensive trade, show a profound indifference by doing nothing at all to stop it. We know how loyal and faithful our dogs across the world are; and we all ask a lot of them - they serve us in innumerable ways: farm work, war work, police and guard duties, search and rescue, help for the disabled, guiding and guardianship, and, of course, as our loving and trusting companions. Dogs were first domesticated many thousands of years ago, and so much do they want to be part of our ‘human’ family that they have learned to understand our gestures and our language - the language of another species, which shows remarkable willingness and intelligence. In Yeoncheon there are countless dog farms, slaughterhouses, markets and restaurants where the dogs, who are tortured their entire lives, end up being slaughtered in the most inhumane ways, such as by electrocution, hanging or beating; and then thrown into boiling water – sometimes while they are still alive. In many places, dogs are being killed in full view of other terrified, caged dogs; and this takes place in public and in broad daylight. In addition, many abandoned and stolen former pets end up in this industry, and are subjected to the same cruelty. Please watch this undercover video by animal rights activists in South Korea: http://youtu.be/3uR8R8Mu70Q There are laws in South Korea against selling dogs and cats for human consumption yet these laws are routinely and blatantly ignored. We believe that there must surely be some social responsibility for the representatives of one city to take a stand against any wrongdoing being sanctioned or ignored by their Friendship City. As such, we ask you to please urge Yeoncheon Mayor Gyu-Seon Kim to take action, and to state that Palmdale and its citizens demand that Yeoncheon issue an official document mandating that the following existing Korean laws be enforced by its government officials, police and judges: Unauthorized processing of food waste fed to dogs in the meat trade is a violation of Wastes Control Act, Article 15-2, Article 25, Section 3. Suppliers of food waste and transporters of food waste to dog meat farms are violating this regulation. Food waste fed to dogs in the dog meat trade is a violation of Control of Livestock and Fish Feed Act, Article 14, Section 1 & 2. Unauthorized collection of food waste and the act of feeding it to dogs in the meat trade is in violation of this regulation. Excrement and resulting environmental damage produced as a by-product of the illegal dog meat farm is a violation of Act on the Management and Use of Livestock Excreta Article 11. The excrement produced at dog meat farms causes environmental damage to the immediate and surrounding area. The act of slaughtering of dogs for human consumption is a violation of Animal Protection Act Article 8, Section 1, Clause 4. The act of slaughtering of a dog, without a justifiable ground – such as out of necessity for veterinary treatment, or in circumstances of immediate threat, harm or damage to human life or property, is a violation. The slaughter of dogs by electrocution is a violation of Animal Protection Act, Article 8, Section 1, Clause 1. Inflicting injury or death to any animal by the following means: battery by tools, exposure to drugs, exposure to extreme heat or fire, electrocution and drowning is subject to legal punishment. Therefore, the routine slaughter of dogs by butchers and farmers by these methods is in violation of the Act. Further, electrocution as a method of slaughter is internationally recognized as an inherently cruel method of slaughter and banned globally. Slaughter of dogs from unauthorized slaughterhouse is a violation of Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act, Article 7 Section 1. The Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act, states that dogs are officially recognized and classified as “animals” that are “prohibited from being slaughtered and distributed as food for human consumption”. Therefore, those vendors operating dog slaughterhouses are operating outside of the parameters of the law and in violation of the law. Slaughter of dogs for his/her own consumption is a violation of Animal Protection Act, Article 10. The intent of the Act is to ensure that no animal is slaughtered in a cruel or revolting manner, and shall be free from unnecessary pain, fear, or stress during the process of slaughter. Therefore, only humane way of slaughtering dogs would be by euthanasia (lethal injection). All currently practiced methods of slaughter by butchers, farmers and traders excludes euthanasia as a method of slaughter, therefore they are all in breach of this Act. This is also a violation of Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act Article 7 Section 1 Clause 2. According to the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act, slaughter of animals for his/her own consumption is allowed only for the livestock animals that are publically announced as classification of livestock in the Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act and dogs are not classified here. Display and sale of dog carcass in traditional outdoor markets is a violation of Food Sanitation Act, Article 4, 5. Violation of laws banning sale of harmful food due to the contamination from unsanitary and illegal slaughter of the animal and display of the dog carcass. For example, dog carcass are routinely contaminated by microorganisms that cause human diseases and food poisoning which can lead to serious and life threatening health complications. There are also strict laws which ban the sale of meat from sick animals, due to the fact that there is no quality control or formal monitoring of slaughter practices in the dog meat trade it is very likely that violation of these laws is happening routinely. Dog meat restaurants’ sale of dog meat soup made with dog carcass from an unknown source is a violation of Food Sanitation Act Article 44 Section 1 Clause 1. Uninspected livestock products must not be transported, stored, displayed, sold or used for manufacturing or processing of food for human consumption. Please refer to the legal information regarding the dog meat consumption in South Korea published by KARA (Korea Animal Rights Advocates): http://koreandogs.org/kara-publishes-legal-information-booklet-ending-dog-meat-consumption/ We believe these demands are in line with the spirit and goals of Friendship cities to establish friendly communications in the areas of tourism, commerce, cultural exchange and public health. International coverage of the brutal dog and cat meat trade in South Korea has stained Yeoncheon, South Korea’s image. Don’t let it also tarnish your City’s Friendship city relationship. The time to end this tragedy is now. The favor of your reply is requested. ------------------------------------------------ For more actions you can take, please visit: http://koreandogs.org/friendship-city-campaign-yeoncheon-south-korea-palmdale-california/
