Acknowledge Clostridium diffiicle (A.K.A., C. difficile, C.diff.) as a global epidemic

In the USA alone nearly half a million Americans suffer from Clostridium difficile (C. diff.) infections in a single year according to a study released February 25, 2015 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). **Approximately 29,000 patients died within 30 days of the initial diagnosis of C. difficile.  Of those, about 15,000 deaths were estimated to be directly attributable to C. difficile infections (CDI), making C. difficile a very important cause of infectious disease death in the United States alone. More than 80 percent of the deaths associated with C. difficile occurred among Americans aged 65 years or older. C. difficile causes an inflammation of the colon and deadly diarrhea. Over 14,000 England there were    14 000 cases in 2013-14,.  Clostridium difficile (aka C. difficile, C. diff., CDI) symptoms most commonly experienced is the excessive diarrhea with abdominal cramping/pain, accompanied by nausea, fever, elevated White Blood Cell Count. These symptoms can advance quickly to toxic megacolon and Pseudomembranous colitis which may lead to surgical intervention and can be fatal.  Clostridium difficile afflicts infants, children, adults, and pets. Previous studies indicate that Clostridium difficile has become the most common microbial cause of healthcare-associated infections in U.S. hospitals and costs up to $4.8 billion each year, EU € 3 billion and expected to increase on a global range,  in excess health care costs for acute care facilities alone.  The Clostrrdium difficile diagnosis weighs heavy upon individuals and their families.  Wages are lost, healthcare insurance is lost, independence is lost, lives are being lost.  The community with local and state government programs are also becoming resources for the patient and their families for a multitude of health, financial, and housing support.   Current Treatments are limited and few are meeting the goals of long-term cures.. -Totally eliminating C. diff spores is extremely difficult because they can survive routine environmental cleaning with detergents, as well as hand sanitization with alcohol based gels.(2)- CDI can be treated with an appropriate course (approximately10 days) of antibiotics (2)  C. difficile infection returns in around 25-30% of patients who receive such treatment.- Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has been used as a treatment modality in patients with severe, recurrent Clostridium difficile diagnosis  (3).- In some cases, removing the colon may be required as the risk of perforation increases due to the high fatality rate associated with ruptures.(2). Clostridium difficile (C.difficile, C.diff.) needs to be identified as a global epidemic so that new novel therapies such as ribaxamase (SYN-004), ridinilazole (SMT19969), RBX2660 RBX7455, NTCD-M3, SER 109 & SER 262, DAV132, FMT, and the Clostridium difficile vaccines Cdiffense and PF-06425090 can be fast tracked through clinical trials.  It would be beneficial to make global changes in Clostridium difficile monitoring, reducing risks, expanding education and awareness, and increase medical and clinical management for prevention, treatments, and environmental safety.  Time is of the essence!  Clostridium difficile preventatives and treatments are needed today because tomorrow is too long to wait..  2)Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Ban Glyphosate in public places

Glyphosate is a chemical that is used in many herbicides, but scientists are now finding that glyphosate is toxic and tied to a number of serious health-related issues, including cancer, ADHD, autism, celiac disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, hyperthyroidism, depression, Lou Gehrig disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, birth defects and infertility. Glyphosate is the active chemical ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup; a broad spectrum nutrient and mineral chelator; an endocrine and hormone disruptor; a patented antibiotic that is sprayed on GMO food crops; used as a ripening/drying agent on non-organic crops such as wheat, legumes, sugar, nuts, seeds. The wide-spread use of glyphosate is contaminating our water and our food, affecting both those that consume glyphosate-treated products and those that do not. That should concern you because the glyphosate based weed killer, Round Up, is being sprayed in all major public areas in our city: In all of our parks, all of our farmers markets, all of our trails, springs, playgrounds, golf courses and schools; it is found in our rain water, waterways, soil and air.  It is nearly impossible for anyone to avoid while being outside. Round Up does not break down for 14 days. The company that manufactures this product is banned in over 30 countries because the people believe their health is more important than convenience and money. Deemed by The W.H.O as a “Probable Human Carcinogen” and most recently, “Roundup causes Liver Disease in Low Doses” there are hundreds of studies that show harm from glyphosate. It is important to practice Precautionary Principle. There is no acceptable level of glyphosate in our bodies or the environment and for this reason we are calling for a moratorium on glyphosate in the city of Orlando,Fl. Glyphosate is found in over 750 products and around 650 million tons have been used in 2013 alone.Glyphosate based herbicides are the most widely used in the world and their use has increased exponentially over the last 20 years (Benbrook 2016). In March, 2015, The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization (WHO) concluded that there is sufficient evidence of glyphosate’s carcinogenicity in experimental animals and classified glyphosate as probably carcinogenic to humans. (The International Agency for Research on Cancer 2015)Studies suggest glyphosate based herbicides at realistic doses may be an endocrine disruptor (Thongprakaisang 2013, Gasnier 2009) which may reduce testosterone levels (Clair 2012, Abarikwu 2015), impair sperm quality (Abarikwu 2015), or could cause disturbances in the reproductive development of experimental animals when the exposure was performed during puberty (Romano 2010) which may occur in humans as well. According to The President’s Cancer Panel: It is vitally important to recognize that children are far more susceptible to damage from environmental carcinogens and endocrine-disrupting compounds than adults. To the extent possible, parents and child care providers should choose foods, house and garden products, play spaces, toys, medicines, and medical tests that will minimize children’s exposure to toxics. Ideally, both women and men should avoid exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals and known or suspected carcinogens prior to a child’s conception and throughout pregnancy and early life, when risk of damage is greatest (The President’s Cancer Panel 2010). Other studies have reported kidney damage and liver damage including the potential for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (Abarikwu 2015, Benedetti 2004, Séralini 2014, Mesnage 2015, Mesnage 2017) and observed intestine smooth muscle activity disturbances in experimental animals all at realistic doses. (Chłopecka 2014). Since glyphosate and its metabolites have been detected in air, rain, and water (Majewski 2007, Battaglin 2014), and may be sprayed in parks or schools where children will be exposed, it is virtually impossible to minimize children’s exposure to these toxins. Therefore, we call on legislators in Orlando,Fl to take the precautionary principle to impose a moratorium on glyphosate based herbicides used in Our city to protect our children and prevent our people, pets, wildlife and endangered species from being exposed and our waterways and ecosystems from being contaminated.   Glyphosate is a probable endocrine disruptor and probable human carcinogen that has already been banned in many Cities, Counties and Countries around the world.   Sources:Abarikwu SO, Akiri OF, Durojaiye MA, Adenike A.(2015) Combined effects of repeated administration of Bretmont Wipeout (glyphosate) and Ultrazin (atrazine) on testosterone, oxidative stress and sperm quality of Wistar rats.
