Buffalo Wild Wings stop selling eggs from battery cages

As a die-hard sports fan, one of my favorite things to do is to watch my Philadelphia Flyers defeat their opponents on the ice. If I’m not at the game itself, I am definitely watching on television. In the last few years, my friends and I have made Buffalo Wild Wings one of our most preferred sports-bars to check out the games. Although, this is no longer the case after recently learning Buffalo Wild Wings supports animal cruelty for no apparent reason. I recently learned about how Buffalo Wild Wings confines its egg-laying chickens to battery cages. I was shocked to learn of this practice and how awful it is for egg-laying hens. These birds are actually confined so tight in a cage where they are not afforded enough space to even extend their own limbs. I’m not cool with supporting such abuse to animals and I don’t know anyone else who is either. After learning of Buffalo Wild Wing’s support for battery-cages, I did some clicking around online, and I learned most major franchises around the United States are phasing out these cages from their supply chains. A few examples are: McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Denny’s, TGI Friday’s, and Subway. So what makes Buffalo Wild Wings any different than these other power-house corporations? I’m a normal guy and like any other normal guy, I eat at Buffalo Wild Wings. But not anymore. Not after learning Buffalo Wild Wings’ gross method of how it gets its eggs! This franchise is literally supporting the caging of animals, and if I wouldn’t let it happen to my dog Sophie, then I’m not going to support it with my money. Please sign my petition urging Buffalo Wild Wings to end its support of farms that cage egg-laying hens.

Petition to Doug McMillon, Walmart

What the Fork Are You Doing With Your Produce, Walmart?

Despite living in the richest country in the world, 48 million Americans still don’t know where their next meal will come from. That means a staggering 19 percent of households with children are food insecure. Part of the problem is the prohibitively high price of produce. Many low income American families simply can’t afford fresh fruits and vegetables. Yet, we throw away nearly 26% of all produce before it even reaches the grocery store due mostly to cosmetic standards from large grocers that dictate exactly how fruits and veggies should look. If produce fails to make the grade for size, shape, or color, retailers deem it "ugly" and refuse to sell it in their stores. Billions of pounds of good, healthy produce goes uneaten because it’s not pretty! But this food is perfectly edible. Culinary nutritionist Stefanie Sacks, author of What the Fork Are You Eating? and co-starter of this petition, confirms that the “uglies” are equally as nutritious as any produce you get in the store, and, in fact, smaller produce can actually have more taste! I’m Jordan Figueiredo, a solid waste specialist, and founder of UglyFruitandVeg.org. Together with Stefanie and with the support of more than 111,000 signers, we were successful in petitioning Whole Foods Market to sell ugly produce. Now we are asking you to call on Walmart to join the movement against food waste by agreeing to sell cosmetically “less than perfect” produce. We want Walmart to combat food waste by marketing ugly produce with an educational and fun campaign like the French supermarket giant Intermarche did with its “Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables Campaign.” Stores in Europe, Australia, and Canada have seen success selling not quite "perfect" produce, offering it at an average of 30% off, and it has increased store traffic and total sales. In the U.S. Raley's has completed a successful pilot selling ugly produce, Giant Eagle has just started a pilot and Whole Foods will start one soon. With over 4,200 U.S. stores, we are asking Walmart, one of America’s largest retailers, to do something simple, effective and good for the retailers’ and customers’ bottom line. Walmart can help out its customers who cannot afford as much as they used to and their employees who are offered such low wages that they depend on food stamps. This is truly low-hanging fruit in terms of its environmental and social benefits. One out of six Americans is food insecure, and more than four out of five is produce-deficient. With statistics like this, it is simply irresponsible to encourage waste of good, healthy and perfectly edible food. Join the “ugly fruit and veg revolution” and let’s ask Walmart to be part of the solution, not the problem. Tell them to add the “uglies” to their store aisles so you can save money, fight hunger and help the environment all in one. The solution might look ugly, but the result will be something beautiful. #WhatTheFork

Petition to President Moon Jae-In, President Moon Jae-In Office, Gwanghawmoon 1st

President Moon Jae-In: Please stop the torture and consumption of dogs and cats in Korea.

This petition will be hand delivered to the President Moon Jae-In of South Korea in October 2017.  Our goal is 200K signatures. Please sign and share for the Korean dogs and cats.  For more actions you can take please visit: http://koreandogs.org/president-moon-end-dmt/ Thank you!  Your Excellency President Moon Jae-In, Please watch these videos: Shocking Cruelty of South Korean Dog Meat Industry http://youtu.be/3uR8R8Mu70Q Documentary trailer: Man bites dog in South Korea https://youtu.be/9SKVdNrfIZo I am extremely upset about the torture and consumption of companion animals in South Korea.  With the ubiquity of social medias, every day we are seeing shocking and heartbreaking images and videos of innocent dogs being tortured and killed in your country. Even though Korea has established an Animal Protection Law for companion animals, dogs are still beaten, hung, electrocuted, and treated brutally by farmers and slaughters. Also, dogs and cats are still being beaten and boiled alive for so-called elixirs, which do not have medical properties except in the minds of ignorant and gullible customers. These practices have no place in the modern world. Other Asian countries have banned the eating of dog meat and the cruel industry that goes with it, such as Taiwan and the Philippines. Why does Korea persist in lagging behind these countries and other civilized societies? It’s the responsibility of the Korean government to once and for all end the cruel dog meat and cat medicine industries in Korea. It is time to dismiss the childish myths and propaganda surrounding these industries and their vile products. It is time to leave behind backward and unnecessary traditions. And it is time for Korea to start taking animal welfare seriously and show that it really does have a compassionate and ethical society. That means it is time for the Korean government to start better educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering, about not abandoning pets, and about treating animals in a proper manner. Until these things are done, Korea’s reputation in the international community will continue to suffer. Its citizens will continue to face shame and embarrassment. And Korea will continue to be regarded as “third world,” despite its modernization and attempts at globalized thinking. With the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympic Games being hosted in Pyeongchang, I would ask that you do all in your power to stop this barbarism and cruelty as the world’s attention will be on South Korea both before and during the events. From now on, I will boycott Korean products, and I will not support Korean companies or visit Korea until the abuse of cats and dogs has finally ended. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For the translation of this petition in Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Hungarian, visit: http://koreandogs.org/what-you-can-do/contacts-for-protest/sample-protest-letter/
