Reinstate back/side of the house trash pickup - to Pre-Covid law

The Town of Mamaroneck and the Village of Larchmont are considering changing the law regarding trash collection to eliminate the option of side/back of the house trash pickup, a service that has been in place for many years.  During the Pandemic "stay at home" order, the Joint Sanitation commission suspended side/back of the house pickup to avoid having people enter homeowner properties.  Now, they'd like to make that change permanent to save money - estimated at $10 per resident per year ($200,000, or 1/3 of 1% of the joint budget or .003%). The JS believes this savings is attainable by having fewer employees. Many residents would like to continue to have the option of either street or side/back pickup, and not permanently suspend the side/back of the house trash pickup choice.  Residents believe having the option should be reinstated for a variety of reasons: 1. Trash bins on the street make for an ugly streetscape.  Bins are often put out the day before, and left out until the following end of day due to residents work schedule.  With 2 trash collections per week, this makes for 3-4 days of bins on the street, which are sometimes blown over, with trash bits sometimes scattered. 2. Many residents have a significant distance between their bins and the street and it is difficult to get the heavy bins to the street.  Residents greatly appreciate the side/back pickup option. 3. The savings seems to be minimal considering the size of the overall budget.  Several residents reference the high taxes paid and consider this to be a worthwhile expenditure.  The Town/Village has indicated that the savings would not be "returned" to the residents. Please sign the petition if you feel that having a choice (either on the street or side/back pickup) is the best way to accommodate residents preferences.  There will be a joint hearing via zoom on Oct. 26th on this issue.  Thank you.

Bojangles: Demand better from your chicken suppliers!

Please sign this petition and help me encourage Bojangles to address the extreme animal cruelty happening in its supply chain! For years Bojangles has been my favorite place to go for breakfast. I found their Cajun Chicken Filet Biscuit irresistible! Until now, I was under the impression that Bojangles’ was dedicated to serving its customers high-quality, craveable food. Unfortunately, that is not the case, and I will no longer be eating at Bojangles. I stopped eating at Bojangles when I found out that the chickens in its supply chain endure horrific abuse and cruelty. Chickens raised for Bojangles are crammed inside filthy, windowless sheds by the tens of thousands and forced to live for weeks in their own waste and toxic ammonia fumes. They are bred to grow grotesquely large at an unnaturally fast rate, and at the end of their short lives, they are violently shackled, electrocuted, and slit at their throats, some while fully conscious. These abuses are not what you’d expect from a restaurant that prides itself on high food quality, but they’re the sad reality for chickefns raised for Bojangles supply chain. Fortunately, over 180 food companies have adopted the Better Chicken Commitment, a leading set of animal welfare standards that end these horrific abuses. Companies such as Burger King, Subway, Popeye’s, Denny’s, and more have adopted these standards. Why is Bojangles refusing to join them? Until Bojangles joins its competitors and makes any kind of progress toward these standards, I hope you will join me by signing and sharing this petition and demanding that Bojangles’ do the right thing for animals!

Petition to MEP's

We Demand that the EU Investigates oil exploration contracts in Portugal

Why do we Demand that the EC Conducts an Investigation into the Contracts Awarded by the Portuguese Government to Repsol and Partex for the Lagosta and Lagostim Concessions Late in July 2015 the Portuguese government published for the first time the concession contracts awarded for the exploration of offshore oil and gas in the Algarve Basin to the consortium Repsol/ Partex. ASMAA’s had the contracts analyzed by legal experts.  After extensive discussions with the various legal advisers, we are of the opinion that there are grounds to request an investigation. This investigation is aimed at ascertaining and verifying if the contracts as they currently stand were not drafted as they are, with the intent to circumvent European laws and guidelines. As a result, we will be submitting a written request to the Directorate of Energy in the European Union to investigate the contracts for any breaches. In addition the Portuguese government is at fault by failing to transpose on 19 July 2015 into Portuguese law the European Directive for Offshore Oil & Gas Safety Directive (Directive 2013/30/EU. THIS HAS NOW BEEN DONE ON 9 MARCH 2016 - 9 MONTHS LATER. If you support our application to the European Commission for Energy, we request that you sign the petition and add your voice to our submission.
