Petition to UNION CIVICA RADICAL, Presidente Mauricio Macri, Inadi

------------------------------------------------- English Translation for our brothers and sisters from around the world: In Argentina, as in many other countries, there exists a tendency to look down on anything related to our Indians. This is evident in the casual use of the term "blacks" to refer to anyone who may exhibit the physical characteristics of the original inhabitants of this land. This kind of language is not only obtuse but also betrays a deep seated disdain for our hosts. Isn't it time for a change?     Given the remarks made by councilman Parisi, we find ourselves at a crossroads, a defining moment where we could make the right decision. The Argentine people are mostly decent, this was reflected in the support from those who came out in defense of the Mapuche. Now, it's time for the authorities to act.   As a group of people enrolled in the UCR political party, we feel especially disillusioned by the [lack of] response from our party. As Argentines, we are tired of politicians who will defend one another even when that means committing, or ignoring, an injustice. Dear leaders, the remarks of Parisi about millions of Argentines (as well as millions of South and Central Americans, United States citizens and Canadians with Native heritage) are not a minor inconvenience. Here are some reasons why there need to be repercussions: a) A person does not express racist ideology of this tenor, simply because he is annoyed by a group of protesters. These were already existing beliefs. Let us not play dumb.  b) Parisi's "apology" wasn't at all genuine. The man insists in blaming the protesters for his "verbal outburst," which he fully justifies referring to himself as the actual victim. Then, in a transparent attempt to inoculate himself from further legal action he adds the disclaimer that his intention was not to incite racist sentiment.   c) In law and also in every day life we tend to consider a heightened emotional state as a mitigating factor for any misdeed. This defense or excuse, however, does not apply to Parisi as he reiterated as well as defended his racist remarks to the media, after some time had passed from the altercation. This teaches us that his remarks were not borne of an altered emotional state. What do we propose in this petition? We propose a decision that places morality and human dignity above party camaraderie. Specifically, we demand that the UCR publicly distances itself from this man as well as relieves him from his post as councilman. This is not a serious consequence but we feel it's a start. Millions of people with a great reputation are laid off from their jobs on a daily basis around the globe. This person, in turn, has a repulsive belief system and a conduct that is incompatible with the role of public servant.
