Support Shelter Island's Short Term Rentals, and PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY RIGHTS!

Please sign our petition and allow short term rentals to continue on Shelter Island, a time honored tradition dating back to the 1870's. PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY RIGHTS! We are facing a Town Board that wishes to regulate/eliminate short term rentals, who would discriminate against families with a required two week minimum, CRUSHING our local seasonal economy. TOURISM IS THE ONLY INDUSTRY FOR TINY SHELTER ISLAND! One week rentals, and weekend rentals, are a time honored standard on the island, and have been for over a century. A two week minimum rental violates the US Federal Fair Housing Act, as well as the New York State Division of Human Rights Fair Housing Act. Will you raise your voice with us? Don't allow housing discrimination!  It's unlawful and mean-spirited. Don't allow your property rights to be compromised! This law will negatively impact our seasonal businesses and our community. Are you an island business owner? A two week minimum will reduce your summer revenue by 50% - that's ECONOMIC SUICIDE! We don't want over regulation - we want Shelter Island to enforce present laws on the books. Please donate $100 to our legal fund (helps with our legal fees and filing costs with Robinson & Cole). We have filed in both state and federal court with serious human rights and housing rights charges. Suits have also been filed in Riverhead, Southold, Greenport, Hampton Bays, and East Hampton. You may now donate visibly or anonymously to support short term rentals on Shelter Island: Please send your check to Michelle D'arcambal, DOCB, 40 Fulton Street, Suite 1005, New York, NY 10038  #saveshelterisland

Help Save Home Studios In Music City (Including My Own)

Did you know that Nashville TN calls itself Music City but doesn't allow home studios to record musicians? In fact, no one in Nashville can work from home if clients need to visit their house. Home studios face harsh fines and court orders if anyone reports their existence to the Metro Codes Department. It happened to me and can happen to anyone working from home in Nashville. My name is Lij Shaw and I am a single dad, music producer, and homeowner living in East Nashville. I have peacefully supported my family working from my home studio for 20 years with no complaints from my neighbors. In fact, I have recorded many of them during that time. In 2015 my studio received its first Grammy award after the Best Roots Gospel Album Of The Year was mixed there. But a month later I had to cut the celebration short when another homeowner, angry about being denied a license for his own home business, decided to report every other home business he could find to Metro Codes including mine (watch the video starting at 25:10). Metro Codes then sent me a Cease And Desist letter ordering me to remove my recording equipment under threat of a warrant and court order. Music City has a long history of songwriters writing and recording together in home studios. Tutors, teachers, artists, writers, and hairstylists also work from home without hurting anyone. These residents all support Nashville’s economy, and yet any of them can be shut down at a moment’s notice from Metro Codes. With Nashville's skyrocketing cost of living, residents need the flexibility and freedom to earn a living by working from home. The Metro Council is debating whether to allow Nashville residents to legally work from home by having their clients come over. By joining this petition you will be helping to send the message that we support allowing residents to work from home by serving their clients inside the house.  Please share this petition with your friends a family and include this hashtag #SaveHomeStudios Thank you so much for your support! Let's keep music alive and well in Music City.Lij Shaw PS To learn more visit SaveHomeStudios.com PPS Change.org offers a donation option by default to help boost the visibility of this petition. Petition to Margaret Behrens, Save Our Trail, Maplewood, Vento Trail, Residents, Taxpayers, Businesses, BRT , Bus Rapid Transit, White Bear Lake Bus Rapid Transit, Maplewood, Minnesota, Gold Line, Rush Line, Ramsey County, Metro Transit, Bikers, Hikers , Recreational , Property Owners

Save Our Trail No Bus Rapid Transit on the Vento Trail.

Ramsey County is planning to build a Bus Rapid Transit Route on the Bruce Vento Trail through north Maplewood with several Park and Rides and bus Stations along the way. One such bus station is one of the only 3 fire stations that our large city has left. That will leave us under protected with only 2 fire stations in our large and growing city. The Vento trail is the only bike, walking, hiking recreational trail that north Maplewood has connecting our neighborhoods and our community. The buses will run 7 days a week early morning to late into the evening with buses leaving every 10 minutes during rush hour and every 15 minutes during off-peak hours.  This will destroy the last green way in north Maplewood and will forever change our city and the environmental assets that we have to offer and to enjoy.  The increased traffic and congestion on a natural recreational trail will present safety and environmental hazards to residents of the area.  Help slow the process and find the RIGHT location for the Bus Rapid Transit and preserve the charm and character of our city and preserve the environmental and “green assets” for generations to come. We must protect it. We cannot leave the responsibility up to someone else. Please follow “Save Our Trail” on Facebook.

Petition to Park County Board of County Commissioners

Stop the Creation of Park County Ordinance 20-01 Regulating Camping and Enforcement

The title of the Ordinance 20-01 is the Park County Camping Ordinance. The purpose of the Ordinance is to regulate camping in Park County and to provide for enforcement procedures and penalties for violations of this Ordinance because unauthorized camping is a health and safety hazard and a public nuisance. The Board of County Commissioners plan to pass this ordinance on 2/20 BOCC meeting.  We dont want this ordinance to pass for many reasons including:  The Land Use Regulations (LUR) it will replace have a sole intent is to protect public health and safety, however, this ordinance also includes public nuisance. This means that someone can complain that they dont like you camping on your property even if you aren't violating an health and safety laws.   this ordinance is more restrictive than the current Land Use Regulations they intend to replace.  this ordinance intends on using the sheriff to enforce it The LUR is also overly restrictive and doesn't allow you to camp more than 14 days without a permit (up to 90 days if you have septic) and you cannot store your camper on your property The presence of your camper on your property counts against your total allowed 90 days There are already state laws that meet the spirit of what the community is trying to address: you cannot dump raw sewage or clutter your property with litter. Adding additional laws that aren't enforced just takes rights away from law abiding citizens.  Read the ordinance draft for yourself here: https://parkco.us/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/7690?fileID=3624 Please sign this petition that intends to stop this ordinance and reduce the government overreach. Your property rights are under attack and the county is already at risk of regulatory taking. Let the BOCC know that the LUR's are too restrictive and this ordinance is an additional overreach and is not constitutional.
