Petition to Gerry Adams

Sinn Fein, take up your seats in the UK Parliament!

Following the June 8th election result, with no party holding a clear majority, it is time for elected Sinn Fein Members of the UK Parliament to take up their seats and play an active part in the political process. Only by taking up their seats can they represent the wishes and interests of the people of Northern Ireland who elected them, and serve the people of the entire UK, by: Preventing the failed Theresa May and her out-of-touch Conservative Party from clinging onto power. Stopping the Democratic Unionist Party from calling the shots on key issues in their 'reactionary alliance' with the Tories. Supporting a progressive approach to the Brexit negotiations that will retain key benefits including membership of the Customs Union and Single Market, visa-free travel to EU countries, full social and environmental protections, and uphold the rights of EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU. Ending the Tories' 'austerity' programme, and providing essential public services such as the NHS, education, social care and social housing with the funding they desperately need. Broadly 'progressive' parties on key social, economic and political issues - including Labour, Libdems, SNP, the Greens, Plaid Cymru, Sinn Fein and SDLP  - represent the votes of well over half of UK electors. But without Sinn Fein MPs taking their seats in the UK Parliament we will all be ruled over by a Tory-DUP alliance backed by just 43.3% of votes cast. While respecting Sinn Fein's long-standing policy of non-participation in Westminster politics, we believe it is time to set that policy aside for the good of all and to represent the democratic will of the UK.

Call For Progressive Alliance – The ONLY solution to keep the Conservatives out

“We have far more in common with each other than things that divide us.” Jo Cox Labour, Lib Dem, SNP, Greens and others do agree on one thing: Conservative rule is dangerous. If those party leaders step back and open their eyes, they will see that their current divided strategies can ONLY lead to that dangerous outcome; an era-defining loss for All of Us! We know 2 things about this general election: 1 - It is the most nation-defining General Election in a long time. 2 - If nothing ‘outside the box’ happens, then Conservatives will win. There is only ONE solution – And it is not exactly what you think. But if we do not wish to see Conservative rule, then this is what we need of our leaders, whether our hearts lie with Labour, Lib Dem, Greens, SNP or others. The solution is NOT: Parties running separately & adding their seats up after the count. - That way the conservatives still win. That is because there are constituencies where Tories beat the main opposition by a slim margin and would win those seats The solution IS: Parties joining forces as a cross-party Progressive Alliance BEFORE the election. - To make sure the votes of the progressive-minded public can count as one to keep Tories out! - The power of this solution lies in those many constituencies where the conservative vote would be outnumbered ONLY by adding together the votes of other parties. This is the simple truth. It is the only way we can stop Tory rule. It is not a perfect solution, but it is FAR less imperfect than the otherwise inevitable alternative. Our Party Leaders must not fail us. It is time to unite for the Greater Good, put aside differences, and focus on what we have in common. No good solution can be without difficulty – but with the combined intelligence of their experts, these difficulties can be overcome. And it is the ONLY solution where all those parties will have voices in power. All parties those will see benefits and come out as winners: - Labour will be happy as they will have a prime minister - Lib Dems & Greens will be happy as people who support them but vote tactically  elsewhere can vote for their party knowing it counts for the Progressive Alliance - SNP would be happy as they will have a voice in Westminster policy. - MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, everyone would be happy as the Tories are kept out. Today Theresa May told us to drop "Tribal Politics' - Let's show her what that means! All our politicians need to ask themselves the question: Are they in politics for personal aspirations, or to make the country better?Because here is a true chance to do that, and it is the only one we have. And we call on them to take it, for the good of us all.

Petition to Leaders of the progressive political parties in Brighton & Hove, Lewes and Eastbourne

A Call for Progressive General Election Pacts in Brighton & Hove, Lewes and Eastbourne

A Brighton & Hove Compass and Sussex Progressives Co-production Unite Don’t Fight: Back the Pacts! A call for Progressive General Election Electoral Pacts in Brighton & Hove, Lewes and Eastbourne Brighton is rightly renowned as a liberal, politically progressive, open minded city and we want our elected politicians to represent that majority view after the General Election! The vote on June 8th gives us a great opportunity to return two progressive MPs in Hove & Portslade and Brighton Pavilion, and gain another in Brighton Kemptown. We call on all progressive parties in the city to not split our votes by fighting for unwinnable seats, but instead join forces in an electoral pact to agree to stand and campaign for one candidate between them per constituency. And Brighton & Hove does not have to stand in glorious isolation! We have two other constituencies in Sussex, in Lewes and Eastbourne, that could equally return a progressive candidate if we work together. So we also call on progressive parties in those constituencies to be the agents of change and back the pacts! Under our current unfair electoral system, this is our best chance to defeat the government and bring about the progressive policies our communities so badly need. We say...Unite Don’t Fight: Back the Pacts!
