Petition to President of the United States, Michael R. Pence, The Honorable Addison Mitchell McConnell, Jr., The Honorable Charles E. Schumer, The Honorable Paul Davis Ryan, Jr., The Supreme Court Of The United States

Got 15 Minutes to Save Our Country?

Dear Fellow Citizens: As most of us innately sense, our country, the United States of America, is at a critical juncture in its history.  We also know that we, collectively, somehow are in control of its future.  The question most of us have is:  what can just one individual (i.e., me) do? Glad you asked. It so happens that the Founding Fathers graciously left you (and all of us) all the tools we need - 15 of 'em. So, if you, as I do, love this amazing country of ours and desire to preserve our democracy for future generations, I have a simple request. It is time for you and me and all our citizens, “We the People,” to re-focus our attention on 15 founding principles and necessary complementary ideals.  And, by spending just 15 minutes a day (wait a that really too much to ask for your country?? Come on, know you can do it) focusing your thoughts on the following ideals, you can be part of a powerful movement to change our country’s trajectory.  Really. (Read the update to this petition below called, Wow, It Works! for a story proving it does.) So, here are the 15 crucial ideals necessary to preserve our timeless (and truly brilliant) form of government: Truth Liberty EqualityJusticeRule of LawEnlightenmentWisdomCourageIntegrityHumilityUnityThe Common GoodEmpathyForgivenessLove If you agree that these are basic ideals that should continue to govern our country’s future, simply sign this petition. In doing so, you commit to spend one minute per ideal (only 15 minutes each day - and that's NOT really too much to ask for your country - you probably already spend that much time in line at Starbucks, and you could do this while there and make the time fly by!) simply focusing your thoughts, hopes and dreams on each ideal. That’s all I am asking you to do. If you can’t spare 15 minutes, then pick the 5 ideals that resonate the most with you, and give 5 minutes a day. It will matter.  You can do this anywhere – in your car, in the shower, while at lunch, sitting in a boring meeting or while standing in line at any store.  It's that easy!   If people ask you what you are doing, simply smile and tell them and ask them to join you. This simple act of collective focus (whether you prefer to call it the “quiet strength of meditation,” the “power of prayer,” or just the “goodwill of well-intended people”) will shift the dynamics of our country’s path forward. You can engage in this simple civic act either alone or in concert with a group, which I encourage you to seek for support and to strengthen our communities (calling all teachers, ministers and civic leaders!)  Again, it matters not whether you call it meditation, prayer or just wishing for the best – our collective focus on these ideals will start the shift that is needed to bring our country back to its rightful moral foundation built upon the highest ideals mankind can offer. And, *as an added bonus,* you can think of these 15 ideals as "yardsticks" you can use to measure current events and news articles.  As you read a story or someone mentions a political topic to you, ask yourself:  is it the #Truth? Does it reflect #Wisdom? Does this demonstrate #Courage?  Promote #Unity and #TheCommonGood? etc. If you believe in this country and the power of a people united in thought and intention to make positive changes, then join me in focusing our collective thoughts on these ideals and in demanding our leaders (ALL of our elected or appointed representatives – federal, state and local - and our elected or appointed judges, respective of Party affiliation) to think, speak and act in accordance with them. Thank you for joining me - be sure to follow us on Twitter (@toSaveUSA) and share this petition with three of your friends ( - do it for yourself and for your children and theirs. We are all in this together. Your fellow citizen, Paula Atkinson

Petition to President of the United States, Melania Trump, Council of the European Union, United Nations, European Parliament, Human Rights Campaign

Attention President Trump: Please Save Alfie J. Evans

To the President of The United States, I'm drawing attention to you Mr. President of United States of America in the case of 23 month old Alfie Evans. The Supreme Court in the United Kingdom has decided that Alder Hey Children’s Hospital can remove Alfie Evan’s life support without the consent of his parents 21 year old Thomas Evans and 20 year old Kate James. According to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool England, they consider Alfie to be in a "semi-vegetative state" and has a "degenerative neurological condition" which doctors haven't definitively diagnosed. As early as February 2017, Alder Hey showed signs that they had given up, and now have rejected doing a standard life-enhancing tracheotomy or even release him to another hospital for an appropriate diagnosis. The hospital has appealed to the High Court to remove parental rights from Thomas Evans and Kate James and removing ventilation to end Alfie’s life. Thomas Evans has fought courageously, continuously and tirelessly for his son's rights and has been working nonstop, exploring every legal avenue necessary, fighting to save his son's life. Alder Hey has refused to look at new evidence in regards to the progress that little Alfie has continued to make, and are refusing the basic rights of Alfie to be cared for at another hospital in Rome Italy who is ready to help Alfie move forward, get tracheotomy and PEG tube and get off heavy sedation to try to diagnose and treat him. His parents had been told several times by outside doctors that Alfie can ultimately be able to go home with a tracheotomy and a direct stomach tube (PEG).  On April 18, 2018, Thomas Evans traveled to Rome and met with Pope Francis at the Vatican. He was assured there that the Vatican hospital is “ready to take Alfie immediately” and provide the care and treatment noting: “The President of Bambino Gesú called me in for a meeting. She wants to take Alfie as soon as tomorrow and will do everything for him.” Pope Francis in support of Alfie voiced that; "The only master of life is God. Our duty is to do everything to protect life". Later on the Pope tweeted; “It is my sincere hope that everything necessary may be done in order to continue compassionately accompanying little Alfie Evans, and that the deep suffering of his parents may be heard. I am praying for Alfie, for his family and for all who are involved.” Thomas Evans released in a statement; "We just wanted to take our son to give him the chance he deserves....Our child is sick, but not dying and does not deserve to die. He is not terminally ill nor diagnosed. We have been trying our best to find out his condition to treat or manage it.” Two days prior on April 16, 2018, Wajid Khan an M.E.P gave a powerful speech to the European Parliament where he said; "I hope a solution can be found with Alfie's best interests at heart. One that respects the love that his parents have for him as well as the dignity and sanctity of his life. As an M.E.P, there's frustrating little I can do for him but as a parent I stand in solidity with Tom and Kate in this difficult time. Like millions of others, I'm also praying for the beautiful strong and courageous Alfie."  We ask you to urgently look into this story as it resonates with millions of parents around the world that would do whatever it takes to save the life of their child(ren). Please help be his voice, review all the evidence, speak with the parents, help them give Alfie the chance of life he deserves.    Sincerely, We the People Together We stand United for Alfie

Petition to U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate

@POTUS & @RoKhanna are right: U.S. military must quit Syria when ISIS is defeated

Some people in the U.S. “national security establishment” – what former President Obama’s adviser Ben Rhodes once called “the Blob,” referring to Washington foreign policy “experts” who seem to always advocate for more war – are having a cow because President Trump has announced that he wants to withdraw U.S. military forces from Syria when ISIS is defeated. The ever-more-war crowd says the U.S. military should remain in Syria indefinitely to confront Russia, Iran, and/or the Syrian government. But President Trump is right, and the Blob – as usual – is wrong.   As progressive California Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna wrote last week, "I am glad Trump is rejecting Tillerson’s neocon vision of asking U.S forces to stay in Syria illegally to counter Iran or to facilitate regime change. We must not maintain an indefinite presence there with no authorization." Congress has never authorized any role for the U.S. military in Syria other than attacking ISIS and Al Qaeda. There is a longstanding dispute over whether even those things were authorized. But there is no dispute that Congress never authorized anything else. Under the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution, as soon as the U.S. is no longer fighting ISIS or Al Qaeda in Syria, U.S. forces must be withdrawn. And so long as they remain, fighting ISIS or Al Qaeda – at most – is all President Trump is allowed to direct U.S. forces to do. If anyone wants U.S. forces to do anything else in Syria, they need to come to Congress and make their case and get a majority of the House and Senate to pass a specific authorization for the use of force to make those actions Constitutional. Forcing these folks to make their case to Congress in full view of the American people will force them to distinguish between the military missions of combatting ISIS or Al Qaeda and any military mission they desire of combatting Russia, Iran, or the Syrian government. Not only are these different missions, they are likely to be contradictory. Whatever one otherwise thinks of Russia, Iran, and/or the Syrian government, they are opposed to ISIS and Al Qaeda. You don’t have to be a fan of Russia, Iran, and/or the Syrian government to acknowledge the basic fact that if there is a limit to how much blood and treasure we are willing to spend in Syria – which of course there is – then we might have to choose which priority we think is more important for the national security of the United States. The only Constitutional way to make that choice is with a majority vote in the House and Senate. President Trump has been criticized for saying that if Saudi Arabia wants the U.S. to fight anyone besides ISIS and Al Qaeda in Syria, then Saudi Arabia should pay for it. But President Trump is right to call attention to the key role of the government of Saudi Arabia in pressing the United States for a more militarily aggressive policy in Syria. As in the case of unconstitutional U.S. participation in the catastrophic Saudi war in Yemen, we need to ask: why are we obligated to fight Saudi Arabia’s proxy wars in the Middle East? How is this in the interests of the majority of Americans? Some who want to keep the U.S. military in Syria indefinitely argue that the U.S. military must stay to guarantee that ISIS can never re-emerge in Syria. But that argument is essentially a tautology. The only way the U.S. can use military force to guarantee that ISIS never re-emerges in Syria is to keep the U.S. military in Syria forever, which is of course exactly what these people want. They want to keep the U.S. military in Syria forever, like they want to keep the U.S. military in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Yemen forever. According to these people, the right time to withdraw the U.S. military from any country is never. According to these people, the right time to withdraw the U.S. military from any country is after some vague, amorphous, ill-defined goal is achieved, which goal always seems to be just out of reach. Urge your Representative and Senators to insist that the U.S. military be withdrawn from Syria as soon as ISIS is defeated in Syria by signing our petition.
