Remove health-care subsidies for Members of Congress and their families
Several years ago, my dad got the news that he had cancer. Sadly, he passed away. My dad had a job at the time, but his employer did not cover him, and without coverage, he avoided going to the doctor until it was too late. As Congress and President Trump try to pass a new healthcare law, I'm reminded of my father and whether he would have made it if he had early access to cost-effective health care. Affordable health care is in decline as premiums and health costs increase at exponential rates. Some politicians cannot relate to the cost burden experienced by families across the nation because they’ve historically received health benefits that most Americans have not. Like millions of people who are panicking about possible changes to their health insurance, I’m concerned the people elected to represent us won’t have to live with the consequences or expenses that the rest of us may have to face soon. I want lawmakers to commit to treating themselves just like those who will be impacted by ACA repeal or replacement. A lot of Members of Congress promote choice as an American value, which is all the more reason for them to have to continue to choose their own health coverage from the free marketplace. If private health care is good for the American citizen, it should also be good for the people that defend it. If Congress is willing to drastically cut healthcare subsidies for most people, are they willing to have the same rules apply to them and their families?

We want the same health care Congress has
Congress has the best healthcare available. U.S. citizens deserve the same excellent benefits. "A quick look suggests that total legislative branch appropriations for FY16 was about $4.1 billion. This includes House and Senate member and staff salaries and benefits, Capitol Complex maintenance, staff and security (including the U.S. Capitol Police), the Library of Congress, the GAO, the CBO, the Government Printing Office."(Source Quora.Com). This is a substantial amount of money that could be spent could be spent on major projects such as repairing the U.S. infrastructure. Conversely when a replacement for Obamacare is finally passed I request you refuse to accept your Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program and pay the same premiums as your voters are required to pay.

Doctor Requests Congress to Repeal Obamacare 100%
Dear All, As a physician radiologist and small business owner, I am delighted to know that we have lawmakers who are in favor of 100% repeal of Obamacare and not willing to agree to signing a bill which continues to have remnants of this terrible healthcare law we currently have in place. Insurance premiums have skyrocketed since the launch of Obamacare and it has been a disaster for small business owners who need to purchase their own plans. From premiums in range of $400-500 for a family of 4, they have gone to a ridiculous $1200 for essentially the same level of coverage. This has been a nightmare for middle-class families who are paying $12000 or even more annually simply for health insurance. That being said, the deductibles are not any better either. So the combination of high deductibles and high insurance premiums, Obamacare has been the worst piece of legislation passed by the previous administration for hard working middle-class Americans and small business owners. The core issue here is the rising healthcare costs due to manipulative billing by for-profit hospital systems. It is still baffling to me how 1 pill of acetaminophen (brand name Tylenol) can cost $20 for in-patient care while the "true" cost of that pill ought to be less than a few cents! This ridiculous pricing structure should be made illegal and banned. Why is it that an MRI of a spine costs over $2400 in a hospital premises building while the same MRI costs $600 at an out-patient MRI center. Hospitals are buying out-patient imaging centers and steering patients to get their imaging studies done on hospital premises, just so they can benefit from these huge technical fees upcharge! Malpractice premiums are outrageous for physicians and it is solely due to lack of cap on lawsuit amounts against doctors. With the exception of states like Texas where there is a limit on malpractice lawsuit amounts against doctors, thus enabling lower malpractice premiums, the kind of premiums we as physicians have to pay here in Virginia and elsewhere are just sheer profit for the lawyers and insurance companies. We need to have a nationwide limit on lawsuit amounts against doctors with the goal to decrease Malpractice premiums. We doctors hold the highest standard of ethics when it comes to professionalism and patient care. Yet we are humans and to err is human. Enabling lawyers to slap on multi-million dollar lawsuits against doctors is just not right. The fear of getting sued has lead to "Cover Your A**" or "CYA" medicine practice by physicians which leads to millions of unnecessary diagnostics and therapeutics annually. As a Radiologist, an incredible amount of CTs and MRIs I read for emergency rooms are normal and negative. If we look at evidenced based medicine, there is tremendous literature to support no need to order diagnostic tests when the index of suspicion for a positive diagnosis is low. Yet, clinicians keep ordering studies on patients "just to be sure". Just to be sure of WHAT? No answer...or often..."Rule out disease" (if that makes any sense!) Of course, bonuses get added on by hospitals for physicians who order a ton of studies! So this is a vicious feedback look which is unfortunately being trickled down to medical schools and residences so newly trained physicians are doing the same practice when they get out of training. Do no harm. That's the first Hippocratic oath we take in medical school as we put on our white coats. Ionizing radiation exposure to patients for medically unwarranted reasons is nothing more than radiation-induced damage to normal healthy tissues. This is a whole topic in itself but wanted to mention it in context to this issue of over-ordering of diagnostic tests. We need to have hospitals and private physician groups stop manipulative coding and billing, stop them from incentivizing physicians to order more and more diagnostic studies for greater profits. It is so bad to the extent that I have personally been told by a CEO of a private physician group that he gives annual cash bonuses to physicians of his group who order the most amount of studies! For patients concerned about losing insurance for pre-existing conditions, I believe if the right steps are taken in the proper practice of medicine by lowering unnecessary tests, eliminating "CYA" practice of medicine, eliminating manipulative billing and coding, fining practice groups and hospitals who engage in such acts which ultimately raise the overall burden of cost, there should be no reason why insurance companies would need to deny insurance based on pre-existing conditions - because they will have now have savings from all the reduced healthcare costs! They (including private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid) will have enough money to cover the necessary costs to get you treated and cured. For low-income families concerned about losing health insurance if Obamacare is repealed, I have the same thing to say. With proper, planned handling of issues mentioned above, there will enough savings to create avenues for low premium insurance plans with low deductibles which you will be able to afford with or without assistance from Medicare/Medicaid. We have a long and treacherous road to fix the rising healthcare costs, decrease insurance premiums and provide better, safer and cheaper healthcare to our patients. I believe with support from readers like you who will sign this petition, we can achieve this goal by reaching out to conscientious lawmakers who truly want to pass laws for the benefit of the American people! And it all starts with this petition to request Congress to completely repeal Obamacare! Thank you!!!Dr. Dishant Shah, MD
Petition to Senator John McCain
Senator John McCain Retire Gracefully
Senator McCain - This is written with respect for your tenure and your service. But we, the undersigned, while understanding the sensitivity of your health matter, believe that the people of the Great State of Arizona need and deserve the best, most responsive, most able-bodied representation in the Senate at this crucial juncture. We want you to retire now, with grace and dignity and allow our Governor Doug Ducey to appoint an interim Senator. We ask that you take your remaining and precious time and devote it fully to your family. We ask that you put the needs of the People of Arizona first. We ask that you retire immediately from public life. We thank you. We respect you. But your condition may soon not allow you to even think clearly enough to understand that you are unable to fulfill the duties required of a United States Senator. We sign with respect - but we also sign with conviction that Arizona needs an interim Senator immediately.

Real people NEED The ACA-Obamacare. Don't play politics with people's health and lives.
****UPDATE**** 10/30/2017. My wife received her 2018 ACA insurance plan renewal proposal today. Her proposed premium has gone from $459.17 per month to $1,187.45 per month. For the first time in her life, it seems she may not be able to afford health insurance. This increase is just Insane! STOP playing politics with peoples lives!!! ********************************************************************************************************** My wife has pre existing conditions. Before the blessing that is Obamacare came along, because of those life altering pre existing conditions, we were only able to afford a health insurance policy that had a $10,000 deductible at a very high monthly premium. She couldn't afford to see doctors regularly and her health deteriorated. I remember counting the days to Obamacare and spending most of the night, and many frustrating days following, struggling to sign up, and once we did, the smile on my wife's face, the sigh of relief that she too can see a doctor, and there was hope. I remember tears of relief and hope. We celebrated the peace of mind this brought us with a hug, a smile and a good nights sleep. Today, there are tears again, fear instead of hope, anxiety instead of peace of mind, worries and sleepless nights (it is 3:42 am as I write this). I hear politicians exclaiming, speaking indignantly, waving their fists and wagging their tounges all preaching about what will happen when 25,000,000 get cut and have no insurance, the outcry there will be.....well, we are those 25,000,000, we are each a human being , not a number. You know us, we are your family member, your neighbor, your Uber driver, your friend, your classmate from years ago, your acquaintance of today.... STOP using our plights for political fodder and for so much fist waving and speechifying! STOP being resigned to the fact that there are not enough Democrats in the Senate to stop this lunacy and reach out to Republican Senators who are thinking individuals and STOP the insanity! Senators McConnel and Schumer, do the hard work that is your job and that you know how to do so well and make it known that this end of Obamacare tragedy and travesty will NOT happen. Don't let us suffer with anxiety and sleepless nights and worse ! For my wife, who is asleep as I write this while I am up worrying about her health and healthcare, for all of us , each one of us, real people - not numbers, DON'T wait to see and hear the outcry when 25,000,000 are left without insurance! Do the hard work of bringing sanity back now. Our health, and our healthcare is not, and should not be a partisan issue! DON'T LEAVE 25,000,000 PEOPLE WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. SAVE OBAMACARE/ The Affordable Care Act! PS: If you say there will be insurance available for those with pre existing conditions, you know that premiums for those with any pre existing condition will go back to being astronomically expensive and unaffordable and high risk pools are either unavailable, most don't meet criteria eligibility, and those that do see high costs and even higher deductibles.

Prevent Hospitals from Seeking Guardianship As Means 2 Override Patient Rights
Anastasia on Facebook I used to think all the talk about "murder boards" in hospitals was a fallacy. However based on recent family events sadly they are true. Currently there is not a law that prevents hospitals from seeking guardianship as a means to override a patients rights to dispute discharge or treatment decisions. While there are specific instances where taking guardianship of a patient is not only advisable but is absolutely necessary when life is threatened, such as in the case of minors who need a life saving treatment but the parents refuse to allow it due to personal values or religious beliefs; however even those instances should be few and far between. Instances like those that have happened to our family the last few weeks, where a parent, family member who holds a legally executed power of attorney and stands 'in loco parentis' for an incapacitated family member can have their powers summarily and arbitrarily suspended or terminated because they disagree with a hospitals decision not to treat a condition because a doctor perceives the patient has no quality of life because they suffer from a brain injury and feels the person "would not want to live that way" should never happen! Quality of life is something that cannot possibly be known or measured with the limited and superficial contact that occurs in a hospital setting and is something best left to the patient and those closest to them. To have strangers come in and forcibly tear you from your loved ones, to abduct your person, because that is exactly what this is - an abduction - is terrifying for a person with a brain injury and other such patients. It is terrifying for an incapacitated person who has relied heavily on and whose life, happiness and well-being has depended on a family member that it is so inextricably intertwined it is impossible to separate one existence from the other without creating great psychological and emotional harm and trauma. I can say this because I have had to watch my sister whimper and cry out in fear since guardianship of her was awarded to Inova Fairfax Hospital appointed guardians. I have had to watch the expression of fear on her face while being told lawyers would now be her guardians and that I no longer had control over where she lived, who would be caring for her, what medications she could or could not be given, or treatments she would or would receive. I did not and could not tell her these same two lawyers also had the authority to place her in clinical trials, and had the authority to dispose of her remains how they saw fit. When Inova Fairfax Hospital appointed guardians removed her from the hospital without notifying a single family member I had to watch the expression on sadness and bewilderment at seemingly having been abandoned when I walked in six hours later because it took our Virgnia State Delegate making calls to locate her because Inova had ordered their nursing staff to not give me any health information, just as they chosen to ignore my power of attorney before we went to court. I have had to watch her being over medicated and suffering while her guardians were missing in action because they signed papers to have her sent to a substandard nursing facility and then went out of town for several days. I have had to physically clamp off my sisters feeding tube to prevent her from being given three sedating medications directly after giving her morphine because a nurse said she could not give my sister her regular medications when she would normally get them because their “protocol” only allowed them to give her medication at 9:00am, 1:00pm, and 5:00pm. Which means she was receiving a massive dose of 600mg of Neurontin, 2mg of Klonopin, and 10mg of Ambien on top of morphine in an 8 hour period! Now maybe it’s just me, but you do not administer those medications, at those doses to a 5’2” 108lb female unless you are trying to put her into a coma or kill her. Stand with our family if you believe this is egregious and sign our petition to not only stop Inova Fairfax Hospital from killing or intentionally putting our sister in danger and to STEP ASIDE and let Anastasia's family care for her as they always have done; but to have legislation put in place to prevent this from every happening to anyone else's child or loved one every again!! Tell the Senate to vote NO on Graham-Cassidy Healthcare Bill
We call on Senate to vote no on the Graham-Cassidy bill. Passage of this bill would result in millions of Americans across the country losing healthcare coverage. Approval of this bill would also result in massive cuts to the Medicaid program, sharply reducing or eliminating coverage for people who have disabilities, individuals living in poverty, and other vulnerable persons. We call upon Congress to work in an orderly, non-partisan, and meaningful way to find solutions that address problems with the Affordable Care Act that result in improved healthcare for all Americans.
Petition to Tandra Foley
Tell the Louisiana Medical Board to Revoke Bill Cassidy's Medical License.
Bill Cassidy's continued attack on healthcare for those most in need must be construed as a contravention of the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm. His attempts to remove healthcare from the neediest of not only his constituents, but also of the American people in general will, if successful, directly result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans on every level of society. The current iteration of the Republican attempts to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Acts, the Cassidy-Graham Bill would forcibly remove 32 million Americans from their healthcare over the next decade and would see Medicare completely gutted. If that were all, that would be enough. However, the current iteration of the bill also includes language of petty revenge on states that have expanded Medicare by implementing a punitive de-funding measure, accompanied by allocating additional funding to states that opted not to expand Medicare. If Bill Cassidy refuses to relent in his shameless attacks on the healthcare in this nation, his license to practice medicine should be revoked.
