Petition to U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, Chuck Grassley
Pass the CARERS Act and protect medical marijuana patients
My six-year-old daughter Morgan suffers from Dravet Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy that causes frequent and dangerous seizures. We’ve tried everything to help her. She’s taken more than 10 different anti-epilepsy medications but at best, she's gone only four weeks without a seizure. Based on our own research, advice from our doctors, and what we’ve heard from families living in other states, we would like Morgan to try cannabidiol oil -- a form of medical marijuana. For children with similar illnesses in other parts of the country, the results using medical marijuana have been life changing. Medical marijuana comes in many different preparations, and is prescribed accordingly to treat specific conditions. The treatment Morgan needs would not make her "high", and she wouldn't smoke it. It would come in a bottle just like her other medications, but with fewer side effects. The medications that Morgan has tried have devastating side effects. They gave her kidney stones, ulcerative colitis, and compromise her respiratory system. She should be able to try this much safer option. But medical marijuana is still illegal at the federal level. It’s currently a Schedule 1 drug, which means the federal government considers it just as dangerous as heroin and says there is no medicinal value. This means our family would have to move to a different state to get it, or obtain it illegally and risk arrest. I have decided that neither of those choices are good enough for my family. That’s why I’m supporting the Compassionate Access, Research Expansion and Respect States (CARERS) Act -- a bipartisan bill that will let states legalize medical marijuana without federal interference. It will also expand research into the health benefits of marijuana and allow Veterans Affairs doctors to recommend marijuana to ailing veterans. The CARERS Act would remove also CBD from scheduling under the Controlled Substances Act, affirming to the world that marijuana does have medical benefits. This bill will change the lives of so many sick and suffering people, like my daughter, around the country. Please sign my petition asking Congress to pass the CARERS Act.
Petition to National Institutes of Health, President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis
Fund More Research for Medical Marijuana as a Solution to the Opioid Crisis.
As a doctor, one of my primary responsibilities is to alleviate pain, and I’m always on the lookout for new and more effective treatments. For years, we’ve used opiates to treat pain and today we are in the throes of an addiction epidemic. Each day the opioid crisis sends over 1000 people to the emergency room and takes 91 lives. Doctors need new pain medications that don't have the ability to kill like opioids do. I believe medical cannabis could do just that and I’m calling on the federal government to fund the research we need to prove it. Outdated beliefs and policies have prevented our country from funding medical cannabis research but the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has reviewed other scientific research and found evidence that patients treated with cannabis or cannabinoids were more likely to experience a significant reduction in pain symptoms. Yet the government still says cannabis has no proven medical value. About twenty years ago, my colleagues and I were sold a bill of goods on a new strategy to treat people suffering from chronic pain. Opioids were the answer, and we were led to believe that not only were they effective, but that they couldn't be addictive. Unfortunately, it took a national emergency to realize that the quadrupling of opioid prescriptions that resulted from these teachings was actually a problem. Not only are opioids in fact highly addictive, according to the CDC, there is actually little evidence that they are even effective at relieving chronic pain. I was duped. It's hard to admit it, but I have to face the facts. To make sure it never happens again, I’m asking you to sign this petition. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), which funds much of our nation’s medical research, allots only $111 million dollars to cannabis research. This sounds like a large number, but it represents a mere 0.3 percent of NIH's total spending on research and is only 0.1 percent of the cost of the opioid epidemic. This is a drop in the bucket for something that experts believe could have the potential to help in our fight against the number one killer of adults under 50. Studies already suggest that states with medical cannabis laws have a 25 percent lower mean annual opioid overdose mortality rate compared with states without medical cannabis laws. Almost half of opioid deaths are due to the overdose of prescription drugs. While heroin is responsible for much of the other half, research suggests that 4 out of 5 heroin users started with prescription drugs. I have traveled around the country and met countless families who needlessly lost their sons and daughters, husbands and wives to addiction. In addition to the obvious emotional costs of this epidemic, the financial burden is exorbitant. The opioid crisis costs our economy over $78 billion per year. So please join me in calling on NIH to quadruple its spending on this important research (only 50 percent of opiate epidemic costs) and sign this petition.

Bring Back 2011 HR: 1364- Freedom of Speech in Science Act A BILL To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act concerning the distribution of information on legitimate scientific research in connection with foods and dietary supplements, and for other purposes. 1.Short titleThis Act may be cited as the Free Speech About Science Act of 2011 ‼️ Americans want access and have a right to access legitimate scientific information about foods and dietary supplements to ensure informed decisions about diet and health care. While the American public is inundated daily with advertisements about prescription drugs for health conditions, many of which could be prevented through lifestyle changes, proper nutrition, and informed use of dietary supplements, Americans are denied access to the very information that assists in making informed lifestyle and health care decisions. ‼️ Providing access to scientific information promotes self-responsibility, thereby empowering Americans to exercise independent judgment in caring for themselves and ultimately reducing health care costs and improving quality of life. The United States has a long commitment to the free dissemination of scientific research with the exception of limited extreme situations for national security. This commitment goes back to the First Amendment to the Constitution and has contributed vitally to the Nation’s economic progress.Learn More: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr1364/text/ih#compare=13067:ih https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/03/07/fda-says-walnuts-are-drugs.aspx

Legalization & Decriminalization of Cannabis
For far to long this herbal plant and it's cousin hemp have been criticized, mocked, criminalized, labeled as a gateway drug, and destroyed. In my opinion as I'm sure I can speak for many others, marijuana is no more of a gateway drug then prescription medications the children can get their hands on or any other drug for that matter that anyone can get their hands on! It's far safer a choice than alcohol! labeling of cannabis as a poison began in many states from 1906 onward, and outright prohibitions began in the 1920s. By the mid-1930s Cannabis was regulated as a drug in every state, including 35 states that adopted the Uniform State Narcotic Drug Act. The first national regulation was the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. The truth that this plant is safer then the food we eat now, safer then alcohol, and safer then a coca-cola drink. This is just the tip of the ice-berg. The government, along with the FDA and DEA have made it their top priority to slander this plant. Make it appear as some evil disease, but the truth is it's an amazing God given plant. Some would say it is a miracle plant, that nature has provided. The earth has provided us with everything we need to survive and live. cigarettes, alcohol, and prescription drugs are the top 3 leading causes for Americans deaths. Yet the government and their allies The pharmaceutical companies have pushed these drugs to the public. Increasing the death rates by hundreds of thousands yearly. while for over hundreds of years this plant has been smoked. Today still no one has confirmed a death related to this herb. It is safe to say that you cannot die from this herb (notice that i say herb) cause that's exactly what it is. While this is just a small amount of information to consider. This herbal medicine from the earth has been curing and aiding so many with mental and physical complications. when the weight of the world is upon you, Anxiety, CPTSD, Bipolar, Cancer, and other worldly problems. I know that people look for away to escape having to think so much, worry about how to take the pain away. Many take on many bad habits that leads to death. such as drinking, smoking cigarettes, and overdosing on pain meds, not to mention the plethora of harmful side effects that come with prescription medications. Why should we the people have to argue with congress and the government that we prefer a safer option when dealing with issues of life. Marijuana is the answer and studies have proven that this plant is medicinal. How many can say that about alcohol, cigarettes, and pain medicine? We the people are petitioning the US government to legalize this plant in each and every state and stop criminalizing it, and harassing us for picking a medicine that actually helps. Why make a war on an herb from earth does not make any sense. Cannabis is a Schedule I drug according to the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, which classified cannabis as having high potential for abuse, no medical use, and not safe to use without medical supervision. The problem with this is that the government failed to tell the people the TRUTH. Lets take a look at some of the facts. According the USPTO ( United states patent office) US Patent# 6630507 titled “Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants” The patent claims that “Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia.” This is the truth!!!!!They've known this for hundreds of years and have purposely locked away and even killed people for this plant. They didn't see a way to make profit from it so they made laws to criminalize it. When the reality of the situation is that they have secretly been making medicine from this plant and just not telling Americans. Remember the government works for us and not the other way around. People have spoken and stated what we want, they have no choice but to listen. So many people benefit from this, cancer patients, ptsd victims, and all of mankind. Everyone has there reasons for wanting as well as a need for this plant legalized. We have to stop allowing laws to pass that do not help and aid the American people. How many more people are going to die this year related to tobacco? The government allows this to be legal!Too many and that's the argument for the government today. They can legalize this herb in all 50 states. The people have spoken and we demand that our request be granted. Think how many people are behind bars that taxpayers pay for because of the US laws that are outdated and there stigmatized outlook on this plant. It's beyond the age of ignorance. It's time for every single American to fight for our rights and liberty as our forefathers have entitled to us. End marijuana prohibition once and for all. The main statement behind this is that too many people are dying and suffering that don't have to. We have been educated wrongly and lied to for far to long! It's time to help the world! Allow this plant and it's cousin Hemp to help the world. Any government official that does not agree with the facts and wonders of these plants need to be removed from their seats. We are being held back from evolving as mankind and it's only for money. Things need to change and these petitions are steps to a better world. Research everything and the truth shall guide you to knowledge unknown. Please sign and forward this, the world deserves to know the truth and we can help heal the world. The world needs to know and have access to the better and safer option available for their loves ones that are suffering. Spread the news and keep changing the world for the good of it. We NEED CHANGE! Legalizing it medicinally especially in New York has been futile. Insurance companies will not cover it, making it an expensive out of pocket cost which most Americans cannot afford. Then to get the approval, the amount of hoopes that you have to go through to get approved for it is daunting, tedious, & down right impossible. The two dispensaries that we had, have went out of business because of governmental red tape wasn't thoroughly ironed out as they say. Now there's only one place that you can go to get it but you have to see physician after physician it's just not worth it.

Fight For Those Who Fought For You
As federal patients, Veterans are being prescribed extremely addictive pharmaceuticals linked to widespread death across the country. Despite this fact, these pills remain at a lower classification within the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) than cannabis. Cannabis has helped many people suffering from debilitating conditions such as PTSD, cancer, chronic pain, addiction withdrawal and has statistically lowered the suicide rate in states where it is “legal.” Veterans Health Administration (VA) primary care teams should be educated on how to best implement cannabis into a veterans treatment plan. When a patient is a legal medical cannabis card holder as well as a veteran, they should be afforded the freedom to use cannabis within the VA system as a recognized medical alternative to psychiatric drugs without any discrimination or unjust actions against them. Do you agree: Should veterans be able to treat themselves with medical marijuana? If you do, please join us in the fight to provide veterans safe access and compassionate care within the Veterans Health Administration.
Petition to Livermore City Council, Mayor Marchand
Support Valley Apothecary's proposal for a medical cannabis shop in Livermore
Cannabis legalization is sweeping the nation state by state and with it comes new research to support the age old claims that marijuana is actually beneficial to your health. The largest growth sector for the cannabis industry are senior citizens because it provides a safe, non-addictive, non-toxic alternative for treating geriatric discomforts, diseases, and disabilities. Valley Apothecary is a proposed cannabis shop designed to feel and operate like a community pharmacy. Now that California has legalized recreational cannabis many of the big dispensaries who got started under the Compassionate Care Act no longer have the time to cater to the medicinal crowd. Valley Apothecary is all about creating a healthy community around cannabis medicinals with a focus on our senior community. Through clean products, free community health and wellness classes, free consultations, and supporting our local non-profits we plan to build a lasting pillar which our community can depend on for compassionate alternative medicine and support.

Petition Opposing Medical Marijuana Dispensary at Potomac Oak Shopping Center
We are homeowners who live near Glen Road in Potomac, Maryland, and we oppose the medical marijuana dispensary proposed for the Potomac Oak Shopping Center. The shopping center, at the intersection of Glen and Travilah Roads, is in a solely residential area, and is surrounded by single-family homes on rustic and neighborhood roads. It is within mere steps of a children’s tutoring center and a planned daycare center, and is very close to a playground. Unlike other Maryland counties, Montgomery County has no zoning restrictions that would prevent the dispensary from being located here. We urge the County Council to amend the zoning code to block medical marijuana dispensaries from such inappropriate locations. Problems with this dispensary show why a zoning text amendment is urgently needed. 1. The dispensary would be in a small shopping center that also has a grade-school tutoring center and a former children’s karate school that is becoming a day care center. These are essentially schools, attended by young children. 2. The dispensary would also be roughly 1,000 feet from a playground and park on Glen Road – Greenbriar Park – that attracts young children and their families. 3. The dispensary would border and be in the middle of purely residential neighborhoods of single-family homes. These homes are just steps from the Potomac Oak Shopping Center; there are no other commercial storefronts within 5 miles. The local roads are all rustic roads and neighborhood streets. The other dispensaries approved in the County are in business districts. 4. Given its inappropriate location, we are concerned that the dispensary will have unintended consequences, including marijuana users driving unsafely on rustic and neighborhood roads, traffic congestion, criminal activity, and increasing exposure (or availability) of marijuana to minors. 5. We are also concerned that if recreational marijuana is legalized in Maryland, this dispensary will become a local neighborhood recreational marijuana store. The solution to this problem – and others like it that may arise in the future – is a zoning text amendment to prevent medical marijuana dispensaries from operating in “neighborhood retail” zones that are surrounded by residential communities; are close to daycare and tutoring centers, playgrounds, and schools; and are accessed solely by rustic and neighborhood roads. We urge the County Council to promptly enact such a zoning text amendment. OPPOSE THE POTOMAC OAK DISPENSARY!
