SAVE THE TURTLES AND MARINE WILDLIFE!!! Use of plastic straws is drastically and disturbingly affecting sea life with 1 in 5 turtles dying after ingesting just one peace of plastic. This increases to a 50% chance of death with the consumption of 14 pieces of plastic. In just Australia alone, 10 million non-reusable plastic straws are used in one single day. This increases to 3.5 billion straws in one year. According to the ‘Sea Turtle Conservancy’, over 100 million marine animals die each year with more than half of sea turtles across the world ingesting plastic and other man-made trash. STOP THE ISSUE!!!                                                  It's a simple solution, all YOU have to do as an individual is sign this petition, share it, and buy yourself a non-expensive reusable straw. They are extremely easy to find online at cheap prices and in some stores such as ‘Sportsgirl’. If wanted, you can even buy reusable straws which come in a keychain sized box that you can attach to your keys. Simple and lifesaving. You can also help by not only boycotting plastic straws, but talking to your local cafes and restaurants that do not use paper straws. Help us enforce a non-plastic policy. SME Businesses can help by becoming pioneers for the future and banning plastic straws from their operations. The turtles thank you, lifesavers.

Petition to Government of Japan

No more Japanese products for me until Japan ends all whaling

For the past three decades, Japan has brazenly killed whales in the name of “research”. But many of us have always known that science was not the reason driving the slaughter. This was confirmed by Japan’s decision last year to withdraw from the International Whaling Commission so that they can resume commercial whaling. Although they will only be whaling in Japan’s own economic zone and not in the southern ocean sanctuary, this means nothing to migrating whales who do not understand borders. Let’s be clear - Killing a whale is a slow, cruel, painful and bloody practice that is totally unnecessary in the modern world. The whale meat industry only survives because of Japanese Government subsidies. Without government welfare, this barbaric industry would not survive. So I ask the Japanese Government, why are they pumping an estimated US$57 million this year into an unnecessary industry that most of the world finds repulsive? There has been petition after petition and campaign after campaign to shut Japan’s whaling down. But they refuse to listen. So I’m asking people to sign this petition and by doing so, also pledge that they will avoid buying any Japanese products wherever possible. If the Japanese Government is prepared to waste US$57 million on this aberration known as “whaling”, let’s show them just how much it could cost their economy.   Take the pledge – No more Japanese products for me until Japan ends all whaling.

Stop whale entanglement

Whales are being entangled, injured or killed in the Gold Coast shark nets, Queensland, Australia every year. Whales and dolphins have the same fear of drowning and the suffering inflicted on them is tremendous. The entanglements are predictable, occur every year and most important are preventable. So lets stop this! How on earth can we justify the use of gill nets allowing to continuously catch whales in the 21st century? These nets are designed to kill. It is time to use new technology to ensure swimmers safety.  Gold Coast bay and Moreton bay in the urbanised south-east Queensland are home to a large number of marine mammals including the common dolphin, bottlenose dolphin, dugongs, and the humpback whale. A recent study ( has confirmed that humpback whales use the Gold Coast as a resting area during their southern migration. Recent surveys show an increase of calving. In particular mothers and calves were found to spend hours or days on the surface to rest with their calves near the shore. Every year more whales and dolphins are being caught, injured and even killed in shark nets that are set 500 m offshore in attempt to kill large sharks. We have studied which nets catch most whales and dolphins and that we can stop a large number of horrible entanglements by lifting the nets for only a few weeks and still ensure safety for swimmers by replacing them with modern and better technology. We need your signature, your support. Every day we grow stronger building a community that respects the ocean and life. Join our facebook community More infos on shark nets from the government here.  An entanglement in a shark net can be viewed here. Alternative to shark nets: drone surveillance, personal shark deterrents, education, prediction of shark occurrence, plastic nets, tagging, shark spotters, enclosed beaches and in development: sonar barriers, electromagnetic fences. Thank you for supporting marine life.
