Petition to Joko Widodo, Joko Widodo, Agus Dermawan, Hanif Dahiri, Sinyo Harry Sarundajang, Sompie Singal

President @jokowi, please reject mining on Bangka Island – North Sulawesi!

I first heard about the mining plan of PT MMP in Bangka Island, early 2013 when I went there for the 2nd time. Chit-chat after diving. I jumped out of my seat and said NO WAY!!! Neveeeerrr!! (Click here for Indonesian version!) The 1st time I went to Bangka Island was my diving trip to Manado. The plan was to go diving in Bunaken, Manado Tua, and Lembeh. But my friend said “you gotta go to Bangka!” I directly thought of Bangka-Belitung. It turns out, it was close to Manado! ;) I went there straight away! That was March 2012 Now, I’ve been there 4 times! The nature is amazing! The underwater is one of the best, the soft coral makes the color of the sea bright blue. And its a small island! Based on the regulations*, any island under 200.000 hectares cannot be mined. And this is only 4700 hectares! So the mining plan of PT MMP (Mikgro Metal Perdana) is obviously illegal! The Governor of North Sulawesi likes to claim that he is the “Green Governor”! Vice regent Sompie Singal also has to be responsible for this! I started this petition to push them to stop the mining, and save the island! Last time I went there was Eid Mubarak. I went around the villages (which I didn’t think I was gonna go there). After having conversations with the locals, my God, they have been there for hundreds, maybe even thousands of years. Almost 100% of the locals are against the mining plan. They are fighting (as much as they can) so that there wont be mining in Bangka Island. They fully understand that it could ruin the ocean, and eventually their source of life and income as fishermen. They also know that with the shape of the island it could very well break and sink.  # It would be disastrous if mining came to that island. # Lets move forward. Don’t be afraid. Don’t retreat. Tell your friends to support this petition and say no to PT MMP’s mining in Bangka Island! From the environmental point of view: the waste would be overwhelming, from the rivers to the sea. The coral reefs would be destroyed, and the fish will dissapear.  From the social side: Automatically, if the fish are gone, the livelihood of the community (as most are fishermen will be gone too! Not to mention the tremendous amount of eviction that will happen, who knows to where. All your life you live in your home, then suddenly you’re forced to move and start all over again.  Thats why it’s important that we support Bangka Island and its inhabitants. Now its Bangka, next its other islands, before you know it our entire nature will be destroyed! # Thank you for supporting #SaveBangkaIsland Kaka “Slank”   ————————————————————————————— *Related regulations: — UU No. 27/2007 on Small Islands and Coastal Region Management. Petition to Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.Sc, H. Syaharie Jaang, SH, MSi, Siti Nurbaya Bakar

Tutup dan Hukum Perusahaan Pemilik Lubang Tambang Batubara Samarinda yang membunuh anak-anak

ENGLISH TRANSLATION BELOW Saat semua ibu mendapatkan kado dari anak-anaknya pada Hari Ibu, aku justru mendapatkan duka. ENGLISH TRANSLATION all mothers will get gifts from their children on Mother's Day, Iwill just get grief. On December 22, 2014 my beloved son, Mohammad Raihan Saputra (10 years old) was killed in the coal pits. The coal pit was located in a residential area and left gaping for granted. I was preparing food when my neighbor hastily reported that Raihan drowned in the coal minel. I ran out of the house and was screaming hysterically, " Who can help me bringing me to the location where Raihan drowned". The neighbors flocked out, hugged me and tried to calm me down. Raihan was picked up after school by some friends to play. But I could not imagine that would be the last time to see my son alive. At 5:30 pm, we finally could reach to Raihan's body, he  was found pale white, stiff and lifeless. No resident did dare to plunge into the water to evacuate him, so we had to wait for the local fire brigade to reach his body. My husband is just a worker at a hardware store, while I'm just an ordinary housewife who sells fried and mixed rice in front of the house to help generate income for our family. I feel so sad, I remember Raihan's words and smile so lively. When I felt sad before, he always told me "Don't be sad mammy, when I grow up, I will ride the motorbike with you and daddy." These words always made me smile . This disaster did not just happen to me. More mothers have lost children like me due to the 150 toxic coal pits which are left abandoned all over Samarinda. The City Government issued Mining Permits covering 71 percent of the total surface city of Samarinda. From 2011 to 2014,  9 children have drowned in one of those pits. It's so sad to see there is not any action taken from the government and nor police. No single company has been sued nor convicted for negligence. I do not request money. No compensation offered by the mining company will be able to bring back the lives of our children. We just do not want this to happen again, and we want to break the chains that are protecting the mining companies from bringing justice. One month after the loss of my son, Raihan, i can see his shadow  so clear in my mind, and feel my deep love for him in my heart, remembering his jokes and laughter with his 3 brothers. TERTANDA Rahmawati, Ibunda Raihan, Korban Ke 9,Lubang Tambang Batubara Samarinda Rahmawati, Raihan's mother, victim no° 9 of Coal Mine Pit in Samarinda January 22, 2015

Petition to Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan Republic Indonesia

Selamatkan Hutan Indonesia! #savethetrees

Terima Kasih English Translations: Indonesia is a tropical country made out of large islands with diverse choices of flora and fauna. Many different species of flora and fauna that is unique and rare can be found in Indonesia. Indonesia’s forest is where our huge variety of flora and fauna lives and develops. But due to the high rate of deforestation, Indonesia’s diverse flora and fauna are currently in endangered. Based on a research that was recently done, Indonesia has up to 130-134 million hectares of forest, but Indonesia faces one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world, with up to 680.000 - 1.100.000 million hectares lost per year. That’s up to 2% Indonesia’s forest loss per year. Based on wwf.co.id, out of 130 million hectares of Indonesia forest, 42 million has been cut down. leaving only 88 million hectares left.   There are many reasons why the deforestation rate in Indonesia is very high. illegal logging, exploitation of forest land, transform forest into the plantation and forest fires are one of the many reasons why is the amount of forest in Indonesia is decreasing. obviously, this created many problems such as forest ecosystem is disturbed, extinction of flora and fauna and forest animals end up migrating to nearest and village and create a disturbance.   Therefore, this petition is made for the Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia (Kementerian Perhutanan Indonesia) to act on deforestation of forest in Indonesia because the amount has increased every year.   Thank you
