Petition to Indigo Shire
Save Skeleton Hill
In Indigo Shire, VCAT has given the go ahead for the destruction of Skeleton Hill by multinational quarry giant LaFarge Holcim. Soon Skeleton Hill will be blasted forever from our peaceful landscape and a massive elevated quarry will take its place. Local residents will suffer noise, dust, explosive vibrations and a fleet of B-double trucks will choke our quiet rural roads seven days a week. Skeleton Hill is the iconic hill overlooking the historic town of Chiltern and the Chiltern Mt Pilot National Park - a mecca for bird watchers and home of the endangered Regent Honeyeater. The hill is a striking local landmark and a site of cultural significance to the Wiradjuri people. There is a small chance that it can be saved if the Indigo Shire can persuade the Victorian Minister for Planning, Mr Richard Wynne, to reverse the VCAT decision. Indigo Shire must meet with the Minister and explain to him the permanent damage that the quarry will inflict on the town of Chiltern and the local environment. The time to act is NOW! Please sign and share our petition. Help protect and preserve SKELETON HILL for future generations!
