Petition to Belgian Prime Minister, Justice Minister and Interior Minister

Stop the Criminalisation of the Kurdish Movement!

Stop the criminalisation of the Kurdish movement! 33 Kurds are currently being prosecuted by the Belgian courts. What heinous crime are they supposed to have committed? They spoke out for the Kurdish cause and promoted Kurdish culture. At the behest of the Turkish state innocent people are criminalised in Belgium for alleged involvement in terrorist activities. The trial is an outrage and affront to Belgian democracy and its implications pose a danger not only for Kurds, but for everyone who stands up for his or her opinions. The Kurdish activists are accused of terrorist activities, but in reality all of them have been engaged in peaceful and democratic activities in Belgium, an EU member state. The charges are almost entirely based on evidence produced by the Turkish state, which is also a civil party in the trial. At the same time, this state is waging a war against Kurdish people, committing crimes against humanity, and imposing a brutal repression against Turkish and non-Turkish human rights activists, journalists, lawyers, politicians and in fact anyone who criticises the AKP government and its president. Until now, no investigation has been done into evidence that points to the fact that the accusations against these activists are false. The Public Prosecutor uses a vague concept of a “PKK cloud” and states that all Kurdish activists and cultural or other organisations are part of this "cloud". This is not true. Not every Kurdish person or organisation, standing up for the basic rights of the Kurdish people, is a member of the PKK. Moreover, to prove that the PKK is a terrorist organisation, they simply refer to the fact that the PKK is on the European list of terrorist organisations. This list itself has no legal validity and was created in the aftermath of 9/11. The PKK was added to the list because of intense political pressure from the Turkish government. In reality, it is the AKP and Mr. Erdogan who are directly and indirectly supporting real terrorists such as ISIS-Daesh, who are active in Europe, as we all know only too well since the Paris attacks. During the last four years, thousands of European jihadist terrorists were able to travel through Turkey and to pass the Syrian border while the Turkish government also tolerated or facilitated logistical and provided medical support to terrorists inside Syria. It is therefore important that more than 100 Members of the European Parliament have signed an appeal to remove the PKK from the list of terrorist organisations. We do not accept that the activists on trial in Belgium are guilty, while they have never committing any acts of violence. We call for support for these 33 Kurds. Belgian and European civil society organisations have nothing to gain from this setback of democratic rights. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have repeatedly condemned the Turkish repression of various organisations and freedom of expression, such as trade unions, LGBT activists and Kurdish and other proponents of minority cultures. Turkish norms should not become those of Europe. We consider this trial as an open and direct attack on our common civil and democratic rights, such as freedom of speech and the right of association. What is at stake in this trial goes far beyond the Kurdish community and the Kurdish question. A conviction of these Kurdish activists would be an abuse of the anti-terrorism law, and will lead to the diminishing of the fundamental rights of everyone living in Europe.

URGENT: #FreeHDPnow Stop Turkish Fascism!

We express our outrage at the arbitrary arrests of Turkey’s opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-leaders Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag, and its 10 MPs on November 4, 2016. With the charges of treason and association with terrorism, HDP MPs are the latest victims of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) dictatorial purge, following an attempted coup in July. Their homes have been broken into and their offices ransacked, access to social media and sharing websites such as Facebook and Twitter have been blocked throughout Turkey following the arrests. All 59 HDP MPs have been threatened with prosecution, including Armenian MP Garo Paylan, signaling that the number of party members arbitrarily detained is bound to increase.‘We are living in 1915—Today is April 24,’ said Mr. Paylan in reference to the Armenian Genocide, through a Tweet released shortly after the arrests. His tweet implies the current actions taken by Erdogan are reminiscent of the evening Ottoman authorities in Constantinople rounded up Armenian elected parliamentarians and leaders at the beginning of the Armenian Genocide. Erdogan is waging an unprecedented purge in Turkey firing over 100,000 employees, and imprisoning thousands of HDP members, executives, mayors, and city council members associated directly or indirectly with the HDP. Just last week, a prosecutor accused Mrs. Gultan Kisanak, Diyarbakir’s first female mayor and a former parliamentarian, and her co-mayor Mr. Firat Anli, of terrorism. HDP lawmakers have issued a joint statement objecting to Erdogan’s inquisition and its legitimacy. Erdogan began singling out HDP leadership after AKP lost its parliamentary majority in the 2015 elections and HDP rejected Erdogan’s desires for a powerful presidential system. The arrests aim to destroy the very foundation of the HDP, as the AKP is afraid of future electoral victories, and ethnic and religious representations of minorities including Kurds and Armenians in Turkey. We will see more arrests unless serious action is taken against arbitrary arrests, intimidation, censorship of the media, political assembly, and repression of ethno-political organizations. Legally elected officials and lawmakers and thousands of people imprisoned in Turkey deserve the legal protection of international law against what appears to be only the tip of an iceberg of repression. We stand in solidarity with HDP and salute their resilience against the political nightmare that is plaguing Turkey and call on your good will to denounce the Turkish state’s boundless defiance of all international laws and to halt the endless war that is being waged against the Kurdish people and other minorities. Continuing military, economic, and political support for AKP is antithetical to the precarious state and interests of ethnic and religious minorities in particular and Turkish society, in general. We hope that you will use the power of your office to seek the unconditional release of unconditional release of HDP parliamentarians, mayors, political prisoners, journalists, academics, intellectuals, authors, and editors who have been imprisoned for defending fundamental freedoms and human rights against the tyranny of the Turkish state. END BAN ON WOMEN’S RIGHTS ORGANIZATION IN ERBIL

REPAK, the Kurdish Center for Women’s Affairs, is a feminist NGO located in Erbil, the capital of northern Kurdistan. On June 5, the local security forces raided the REPAK office. They confiscated the IDs and phones of the three staff women members, put the women in a car, drove them outside the city, and dumped them in the middle of the road; at that point, they gave back their phones and IDs and said they were barred from the city of Erbil from then on. They gave no reason or legal justification for this expulsion and produced no official documents. The only written clue to what is going on has been a statement on a pro-KDP news site accusing REPAK of trying to sabotage Iraqi Kurdistan’s move towards independence, a charge the women call ridiculous. Since they live above their office, and all their possessions remain there, they are also being denied access to their personal property.  The attack on REPAK is as an attempt to eliminate an independent voice which stands for women's rights, has popularized the successes of the radical Kurdish women’s movements in Turkey and Syria, and acts in solidarity with them. Such independent civil society organizations are vital to a democratic society.

To UN: recognize the Kurdish genocide in Turkey

Россия освободительница - информационный портал Геноцид курдов в Турции Геноцид курдов в Турции (видео, фото) 18+   Today, in the beginning of the third millennium, in front of the eyes of the mankind another monstrous crime is taking place. The misanthropic essence of the Turkish managers who did not change their nature at all during the history, again shows off with its characteristic ferocity and cruelty, this time in the form of the genocide committed against the Kurdish population that lives in Turkey and is a national minority. From December 2015 up to this date, in the Diyarbakir Province of Turkey and in a number of cities and areas populated by Kurds the peaceful population is massacred by the Turkish armed forces and police divisions and, as a rule, neither the elder people, children, men nor women are spared. How much innocent blood should be shed before the executioner of nations Turkey gets the punishment it deserves?By applying to the international society represented by the United Nations Organization and its secretary Ban Ki-moon, based on the norms of international rights and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of 1948 we demand: Immediately summoning an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council; Qualifying the mass killings of the Kurdish population in the country committed by the Turkish government as a genocide; Immediately taking all the required measures for stopping the extermination of Kurdish nation in Turkey; Investigating all the available facts and invoking the responsibility of all the persons responsible for the mass killings of the Kurds.  UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide ARTICLE  2 In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) killing members of the group; (b) causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
