Petition to Justin Trudeau

Help Saudi residents/students from being forced out of Canada before it's too late!

I have the great pleasure of working with some of the best medical fellows, residents, and students; the majority of which are from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Due to the ongoing row between the governments of Canada and Saudi Arabia, a minimum of 8 300 Saudi students in Canada have lost their voice and will be forced to up-root their lives and leave Canada by the end of August 2018, regardless of their work, school, and social progress. The majority of these students, regardless of the Kingdom's order to leave Canada and the potential consequences, would do anything to stay in Canada to finish their work and studies. Unfortunately, the Saudi Arabian government is withdrawing all scholarships and funding to these students, consequently forcing these students out of Canada because they can no longer afford university tuition fees for international students which are three times higher than tuition fees for Canadians. Furthermore, since these students are not considered Canadian citizens, they don't qualify for any bank or government loans. Let us keep in mind that these poor students did not choose their government. As Canadians, we are strong believers in human rights and freedoms, this is how this whole feud began, and as Canadians we should not sit back as these rights and freedoms are being taken away from these students, especially if we can prevent it! Having worked with these amazing doctors and students for many years, I have seen firsthand how dedicated, passionate, and hard working they are, always striving to be the best. Providing exceptional quality care to patients and not to mention the amount of work and research that these student have provided to help advance medical science and technology, that could not be possible without having been paired with our great Canadian universities. It would be catastrophic if all the Saudi medical residents were to leave, as it would strain our health system which is already struggling with patient volumes. Not only negatively affecting the already overworked staff, but will indefinitely have negative consequences on the quality and timely manner of care to patients. We ask the Canadian government to please consider offering the Saudi students, residents, and fellows affected by this unfortunate feud, a choice. Possibly a fast-track Canadian citizenship or government loans, to help them stay and strive in Canada to achieve their dreams. Many Saudis fear speaking out and voicing their opinions due to possible persecution if they return home. As Canadians, we need to rise up and give them a voice. This would definitely be an investment for Canada, but a worthwhile one, that could greatly benefit us in the future as we are already experiencing a shortage of doctors. Let us be proud Canadians, who appreciate our hardworking doctors, who stand up for what is right, and who invests in a better future.   We, the undersigned, call upon the Canadian government, and all who share a common concern, to uphold Canadian values of rights and freedoms, by taking appropriate action in determining a solution for Saudi medical fellows, residents, and student who wish to stay in Canada, before the end of August 2018. The Canadian people and Saudi students depend on your conscience.

Get air conditioning in our elementary schools!

Our young kid's are legally expected to go to our school's in Canada. Most parent's cannot afford to home school our children with how expensive our economy has become. These kid's and their teacher's suffer in the summer months in the hot sticky classrooms. Our government needs to take a better look at this issue. Fan's do not cut it when the classroom is 30+ inside, the school's light's are always off to hopefully reduce the extra heat and it does not do much either. I and many other parent's have walked into these schools to find our kids sweating and they are miserable! The kid's and teacher's are cooking inside these walls! I want the government to find it in their budget to fund these school's to get the proper air conditioning system's put in! Your forcing parent's to send their kid's and even the teacher into a building that is NOT fit for our young children to learn in or for any adult to teach in. Please help the people in Canada to keep our future kid's safe from these brutal surroundings our kid's are put into when they are supposed to be comfortable and learning (they are all our future so we need to take care of them)! Also I am 100% sure parent's would rather see our tax money spent in places like this than in half the things the government spends it on!  Thank you,  Jessica Storey

Stop killing the Oceans and Marine Life. Today is Canada's #LastStraw.

My name is Rohan Jain. I am a 17 year old student in Toronto, Ontario. I have been running an environmental blog called the www.thesocialpoop.com A few days ago, I was researching plastic and came across these horrifying facts: 10 metric tons of plastic are dumped in the Pacific Ocean everyday. As of March 23rd, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is 3x the size of France, 2x the size of Texas and makes up 40% of the ocean. This has led to the death of Albatrosses, sea turtles and other creatures. We are exposed to plastic each day in our food and water bottles. To make matters even worse, these microplastics are consumed daily by everyone. If we do not change our ways, the oceans will have more plastic than fish by 2050. For a second, I want you to think about the devastating effects that plastic has on our health and the environment. Some Facts about Straws Of the 8 million metric tonnes of plastic dumped in the ocean each year, plastic straws are amongst the top 10. 1 billion plastic straws are globally consumed daily. This equals for a grand total of 365 billion plastic straws globally consumed each year.  1/2 of this amount is consumed in the United States. Why Straws? Plastic Straws are found pretty much everywhere - Examples are restaurants, bars, amusement parks, hotels, the Starbucks around the corner, and even our own homes.  Do we really need plastic straws? There are a vast amount of eco-friendly options that are bio-degradable.  Our Goal - June G7 Summit 2018 In April 2018, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has skirted around plastic straws, merely stating he would be open for suggestions and would like to discuss the issue with fellow G7 nations during the June 8-9 G7 Summit. However, we do not want the Canadian government backing out on a great start to fixing our polluted oceans and environment. In fact, Britain has banned plastic straws effective in 2019. We want Prime Minister Trudeau, the Canadian government, and the world to know that Canadians expect a similar response. Canada says: This is our #LastStraw.
