Petition to News Corp., Independent Press Standards Organisation, Ofcom

Stop negative media coverage of Islam

Islam is a religion of peace. I have spent years reading about the religion and have travelled to Islamic countries to see the true Islam for myself. Muslims, and many non-Muslims alike, have had enough of watching, hearing and seeing the media, particularly the news, represent Islam negatively. The news has made non-Muslims become fearful, anxious and paranoid in public as they are represented as bad members of society. Islam is the world's fastest growing religion, and there is a reason for that. It's beautiful. For one example, the percentage of terrorists in the international Muslim community is almost insignificant. The news is not an accurate source of information, but unfortunately it has a lot of power and uneducated people believe headlines before or instead of checking facts and figures before commenting. Together, we must stand to fight against the unjust and unfair portrayal of Islam in the media, and work to promote the religion for what it truly is. It's a religion of peace, brotherhood, loyalty, devotion and obedience. Women ARE treated fairly too, much better than some non-Muslims treat women. Every country has its extremists, but the Muslim community is undoubtedly one of the kindest, most giving, genuine community in society today. True followers of the religion do not commit crime, break a promise, force others into the religion or treat people badly. The true Islam must be recognised by the media and must stop using negativity against Islam to produce custom. I hope that as a community and good people we can stop the attack on Islam, and concentrate on getting facts right before journalists produce this content. Let's stop dividing this world's cultures, and bring people together to love one another.

Petition to Theresa May MP, Theresa May

Lift the unjust ban excluding Minister Farrakhan from entering the UK #freespeechforALL2015

For 29 years, the HONOURABLE MINISTER LOUIS FARRAKHAN has been excluded from entering the United Kingdom on grounds that have never been fully justified. As the National Representative of the Nation of Islam, The Honourable Minister Louis Farrakhan has been a lifelong campaigner against war, poverty and discrimination. We believe that freedom of speech ought to prevail in the UK and that it is time for Minister Farrakhan’s unique voice to be heard in this country. Minister Farrakhan has been banned from the UK since 16 January 1986 on the vaguely defined grounds that “his presence would not be conducive to the public good.” In response to an appeal by Minister Farrakhan’s European representative, Hilary Muhammad, Justice Turner judged on 1 October 2001 that the Secretary of State was required to demonstrate objective justification for excluding Mr Farrakhan from this country. Objective justification was not found. However, the judgement was nonetheless overturned by then Home Office Minister, David Blunkett. The grounds again offered only non-specific reasoning. Now 82 years of age, Minister Farrakhan maintains a gruelling work schedule. He has travelled the world spreading a message of atonement, reconciliation and responsibility. His Million Man March inspired nearly 2 million men to convene in Washington, D.C. His work has promoted the right to an education for all, while opposing war and injustice. We appeal to you to allow freedom of speech to prevail, so that his voice may be heard in the UK. #freespeechforALL2015 #FRKN2015
