Subway: Help End Plastic Pollution, Adopt a "Straw Upon Request" Policy
When I first saw the viral video of a turtle with a plastic straw stuck in its nostril and throat, I was speechless. I had known that plastic waste was a problem, but never so deeply understood the harm it causes to those around us. Inspired, I started a petition with my school's environmental club asking my state to adopt a “straw upon request” policy. But soon I realized that wasn’t enough: we need the restaurant industry to do its part in controlling the plastic waste that plagues our oceans. Marine experts say that if we don't curb plastic waste, the majority of which is made up up single-use straws, by 2050 there might be more plastic in our oceans than fish. That’s unacceptable. Restaurant's like Ted's Montana Grill and Bon Appetit have ended their use of plastic straws, and just this month shareholders at McDonald's considered a ban on plastic straws in their restaurants. It’s time that Subway Restaurants, one of the largest fast-food chains in the U.S. and an environmental leader in the fast-food industry, follow suit. With nearly 45,000 locations in the U.S. alone, their ability to make a dent in curbing plastic waste is tremendous. Subway has already taken steps to reduce their waste: their napkins are made with 100% recycled fiber, their salad bowls were redesigned to remove 2.62 million pounds of plastic from their waste stream, and they have changed the design of their cup carriers to save thousands of trees per year. It's clear the restaurant chain wants to be known for its environmental sustainability ― but their use of plastic straws is still an issue. As one of the most influential restaurant chains in America, the number of plastic straws they use ― and the number that end up in our oceans, swallowed by sea turtles ― is concerning. Why not take a bold step and implement a "straw upon request" policy in their stores? With this policy, the use of straws are still available to those who require it to drink, such as children or those with physical disabilities. This subtle change would not greatly reduce the unnecessary use of straws, but also bring attention to the urgency of the battle against plastic pollution. Please urge Subway to help end plastic straw waste by implementing a plastic "straw upon request" policy.
Petition to Dunkin' Donuts, Nigel Travis CEO
Dunkin Donuts: Adopt a Plastic Straw Upon Request Policy
Our names are Amanda and Sophia. One day in science class, we came upon an article on plastic straws. The article stated that Americans use more than 500 million straws a day- and throw them away. That is equivalent to 125 school buses filled with plastic straws. We also learned that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Those numbers concern us. So when we joined the Earth Club at our school, the leader suggested using change.org, which is how we came upon this website. All 500 million of these plastic straws end up in a landfill or worse, the ocean. When plastic straws get into the ocean, the fish mistake it for food, eat it, and get sick or die. In fact, science shows that when you eat fish, you might as well be eating plastic! We both think that Dunkin Donuts is a very tasty and an influential company. By choosing this business, we hope to make them take this issue very seriously. These shops have a lot of people coming in every day, almost all of them getting cold beverages containing plastic straws. However, those straws add up to the landfill and get into the ocean. Dunkin' Donuts is a very successful company, so if they stopped giving out straws (and retained some available for customers with disabilities), won’t others follow their lead? So please sign this petition and share it with your friends to help the environment, and the world we all live in. Remember, #StrawsSuck! Thank you!

Stop The Use Of Plastic Straws
Did you know that there are enough plastic straws that if you line them up it would rap around the world 42 times! 42 Times! The government needs to ban all plastic straws in the United States and dispose of the straws properly. This way, we can save the world before it becomes an awful place of plastic! Do we really want to become like Wal-ee?

Ban plastic bags and straws in NYC!
Dear Citizen, Recently, a young pilot whale washed up in Thailand, vomited seven plastic bags and died. During his autopsy, 17 pounds of plastic were found inside him, including 80 more plastic bags. This horror story is unfolding around the world. In April, a young Sperm whale - the world’s largest whale with sonar that would bust your eardrums! - washed up in Spain, this one carrying 64 pounds of plastic lodged in his stomach. The belly of the whale is the belly of humanity. Microplastics, found in products like cleansers and toothpastes, are prevalent in mussels and other filter feeders, in our sushi, our sea salt and in our drinking water. In fact, the World Health Organization launched a global review of our drinking water last month after microplastics were found to be twice as high in popular bottled water brands as in regular tap water - which in the US, includes 94.4% of our drinking water. The state of plastics in our water is not OK for me. Is it OK for U? OKFORU is a project that invites you to fear nothing but complacency. Together, I hope you will join me in calling on Mayor De Blasio to ban single use plastic bags, straws, and styrofoam in New York and to lead on this issue. If you would like to get more involved, here are some activities I could use help with at an upcoming art and live event series coinciding in NYC with this petition: Where: Chinatown Soup (16B Orchard St, New York, NY) When: Aug 16 - Aug 30 th Writing postcards. Galvanizing other people to write postcards. Collecting signatures for petition. All ideas are appreciated at firstname.lastname@example.org Your fellow citizen, Julia

Ban Testing Tobacco On Animals in Canada
The lives of animals matter too! Animals are such amazing creatures, which are vital to the world and how it runs. We need to love and care for these animals. They are exactly as we, and they don't deserve to go through torment, torture and harm; endangering their lives for products that will, in the end endanger our lives as well. The majority of the population have known for decades that smoking cigarettes cause diseases in nearly every organ of the body, yet we still continue to manufacture these health damaging products, and continue to target harmless animals to conduct cruel, irrelevant lab tests on. With immense research, I have found that many people don't even realize that animals are still being used for these tests; being forced to breathe in the cigarette smoke for up to six hours straight, for many years, or, for how long it takes for them to pass, due to internal complications. From dogs and monkeys to smaller animals like mice and rats, have been forced to breathe in smoke, or they apply cigarette tar directly to the skin, to forcefully induce the growth of cancer/ tumors. Animal tests are not only extremely cruel, but are irrelevant to the health of humans. Each animal has a different system, which put forth different reactions at different times, with different strengths and effects. Humans aren't exposed to cigarette smoke as directly, in the same time frame and manner as the animals that are being tested. Creating the irrelevance of these tests, because they aren't realistic. Many animal activists, and privately owned organizations have been pushing to end the continuous experiments on animals for more than a decade. The population of different species of animals are slowly declining due to hunting (both legally and illegally), illegal killing for trade (furs, horns, ivory, skin, and more), keeping animals in unliveable captivity, the melting of the ice, the changing of climate, animal cruelty, and tobacco testing. All in which are an unnatural decline to the environment, breaking the natural growth and decline in population that should only be controlled by the other animals. That is the way it is supposed to be, exactly how it was before humans came along and started destroying their habitats and killing off each individual species. Without humans, the animal populations would be thriving, because there would be no human beings there to damage it. So many species are endangered, and are becoming endangered because of humans. Yet many people don't realize that our world is going to die if we continue the way we are, without fighting to save the animals. Once they are all gone, the human population is going to diminish until we are no more, because the animals are what sustain our life here on earth. Earth has just become something that many take for granite. We should be putting the money used to create lab experiments towards helping people with tobacco addictions so that harm to animals can end. With your help I believe the voices of the animals can finally be heard. Please help to ban tobacco product and ingredient testing on animals. Their lives matter too.

Petition to Justin Trudeau
Call for a Canadian election now not in 2019.
I'll keep this short. With the release of our budgets all across Canada it seems we need to have a call for a re-election. It appears no one is happy or has been happy for 2 years, the same 2 years the federal party had to make a change. This is a call for a re-election both federally and provincially across Canada. If you feel we need to see if Canada still backs the parties they initially voted for, sign and share.

Government of Canada should send drought aid directly to organizations based in Somaliland
CONCERNS THAT $21 MILLION AID PACKAGE WILL NOT REACH SOMALILAND Dear Prime Minister Trudeau, Minister Freeland, and Minister Bibeau, Firstly we would like to thank you for providing assistance to countries suffering from food crises in Africa and the Middle East. According to a report by CBC News, Somalia will receive $21 million from the $119 million aid package that was announced by Immigration Minister, Ahmed Hussen. The report also states that Canada's contribution will be delivered through non-governmental humanitarian organizations in Somalia. The amount for Somalia is not what prompted this letter - but rather the worrying reality that Somaliland might not get any of the above-stated aid. The Republic of Somaliland is a de facto sovereign state that has been independent for the last 26 years. The de facto state has never had any relations with Somalia or the central government since they restored independence in 1991. Despite having de facto independence, Somaliland is still internationally unrecognized. As you are all probably aware, Somalia's "central government" has been widely associated with rampant corruption, fraud, and money laundering. Many NGO's based in Somalia often cut deals with the government and have been accused of being just as corrupt. There is no guarantee that aid will reach Somaliland if it is sent to NGO's that are not based in Somaliland. That being said, we are kindly asking the Government of Canada to send Somaliland’s portion of the aid directly to NGO's and charities based in Somaliland. Many countries that have informal ties with Republic of Somaliland such as the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Ethiopia and the United Kingdom have done so already. We strongly believe that the Government of Canada is truly sincere about helping those in need. Therefore, we cannot stress how important it is to get in contact with Somaliland NGO's and charities in order to help the desperate drought victims in Somaliland. Regards,Somalilander-Canadian Community and Global Somaliland diaspora
