Petition to Senator William Brownsberger, Representative Claire Cronin
Help Elderly Divorced Women in Massachusetts! Oppose Retroactive Alimony Bill H.740.
Dear Senator Brownsberger and Representative Cronin, We write to you in opposition to Bill H.740 "An Act Reforming Alimony in the Commonwealth." Hundreds of divorced senior women in Massachusetts stand to lose their court-approved alimony support if Bill H.740 passes into law. This unusual bill would apply retroactively - meaning it would apply to divorces that have already taken place. All other states - red and blue alike - that have considered similar retroactive alimony changes have REJECTED them! One governor vetoed retroactive alimony changes saying they could have "unfair and unanticipated" consequences to "spouses who have sacrificed their careers to raise a family." Let's not make Massachusetts the first state to pass legislation that will put divorced elderly women at risk and treat them inequitably. The time for trampling women's well-being and dignity is over. Leave established divorce judgements and the women who depend on them alone. Oppose Bill H.740.

Change Guardianship Courts
Guardianship Court Needs To Change It should be mandatory Judges meet the Wards, know what medications they have been given for at least 72 hours and that local Legal Aid organizations be required to help family members of Wards when the family members do not have financial resources to hire representation. Lack of funds should not prevent help with court proceedings especially when attorneys are given to a Ward so representation is already noted as a necessity. email@example.com
