"Not For Girls " sexist advertisement | პეტიცია "ბუღას" სექსისტური რეკლამის საწინაღმდეგოდ
The Georgian market is being exposed to a new sexist advertisement from the company “SC Healthy Water”: Their new energy drink “Buga” bears the slogan “not for girls” and advocates that this drink is for a strong man and not appropriate for a woman. These advertisements are sexist propaganda, and “SC Healthy Water” should be held responsible. This slogan reinforces the current sexist stereotype prevalent in Georgia; that men are stronger, that what’s for men is not appropriate for women, and that men are strong while women are weak. Women are as strong as men, and even though this slogan does not explicitly ban women from drinking this awful drink, it reinforces negative gender stereotypes and portrays women as weak second class citizens. Close the Wage Gap for Women
People across the country are hurt every day because of gender discrimination, especially in pay differences. This has been a problem for decades and we want that to change. We hope you support the proposal of the Paycheck Fairness Act so that it will expand protections to the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and the Fair Labor Standards Act to specifically focus on the gender pay gap in the United States. According to the ACLU, The Paycheck Fairness Act : requires proof from employers that wage differences are based on merit and not gender prohibits reprisal against workers if they ask about wage practices or reveal their own wage strengthens consequences for equal pay violations has the Department of Labor help employers and collect wage-related data allows additional training for Equal Employment Opportunity Commission staff to better identify and handle wage disputes This affects women across the country and we must continue to push for equality for all and stand against discrimination in the workplace. We are sending this to our US Senators, Feinstein (D-CA) and Harris (D-CA), and the US Secretary of Labor so they can see that their constituents care about this issue and want to see a change being made. Both Feinstein and Harris have voiced their support for equal pay and this bill. We implore them to continue fighting for this issue that affects many Americans. As part of his job, we also hope that the Secretary of Labor will use his position to work to solve the issue surrounding wages that is prevalent in our society today. As young women, we want to create positive change and use our voices to help those who are given unequal opportunities. Justice for Military Sexual Trauma Victims: Pass the Military Justice Improvement Act
Of the 26,000 sexual assaults in 2012, only 3,374 were reported and only 302 were brought to trial. I am a retired U.S. Navy Veteran and Military Sexual Trauma (MST) survivor. And like many other victims in the military, I was harassed, and humiliated by my Chain of Command after reporting my abuse. But a bipartisan bill before the U.S. Senate right now can completely change how sexual assaults in the military are handled - the Military Justice Improvement Act. As it stands now, any U.S. Military personnel, male or female, who are sexually assaulted or harassed are at the mercy of their own Commanding Officers who have full jurisdiction and discretion in prosecuting these cases. In many of the cases the perpetrator is not prosecuted while the victim is treated as the criminal, ostracized and harassed by their own command and often their military service stands in jeopardy. This is why so many assaults go unreported. Even though I was raped while in the Navy, my case it is a story of command harassment. During a 5 year period I was harassed, by my command because the Maintenance Officer didn't want "women in his Navy". Between being raped and continuously harassed I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2001. I was raped and it was traumatizing, but the most devastating thing was the Command Harassment. The Military Justice Improvement Act (S. 967) changes this by taking the Commanding Officer out of the case and providing a specialized legal group in charge of investigating and prosecuting these cases. This is a common sense step that our closest allies, including the UK, Canada, Australia and Israel, have made to their militaries. The Military Justice Improvement Act has bipartisan support but needs more votes to pass and it will be voted on this week. Your Senator needs to hear from you about this important bill now! I spent 20 years trying to run away from the hell the Navy put me though. I was told that all of my problems were between my ears. They tried to Court Marshal me, they harassed me on a daily basis, and when I was transferred the harassment continued because my perpetrator picked up the phone and had me labeled a troublemaker before I even checked in. If the Military Justice Improvement Act had been passed then, that wouldn't have happened to me. Help us get the word to Congress that the rape culture in the military is still prevalent. Tell them we will no longer allow our men and women in the military to be raped, tell them that we WILL hold them accountable. I am taking a stand against the unjust persecution of my brothers and sisters that are victims of MST and harassment. Justice for Mili Hernandez
Mili Hernandez is an 8 year-old girl who loves soccer. She's so good that she plays on the 11 yr-old roster even though she's only 8. Last weekend, she helped lead her team to the finals of the Springfield Soccer Club girls tournament. However, before taking the field on Sunday, she and her team were suddenly disqualified because the tournament organizers insisted she was a boy due to her short hair style. Mili's family provided the organizers with their insurance card, as an attempt to show proof, but it wasn't enough. Mili's brother stated "They didn't want to listen. They said the president made his decision and there wasn't any changing that". Mili was so devastated, they made her cry. Please help us fight back against this clear case of sex stereotyping discrimination from the Nebraska State Soccer Association. Let's let them know we will not let our girls be treated unfairly just because they do not conform with what they think a girl should look like!
