English  ALDI is endangering the safety of our lives and that of our children on the Costa Blanca We are surprised by another supermarket in an already over-saturated area. The residents of Benissa (on the Costa Blanca) will have to endure the impact caused by another supermarket without being consulted beforehand. We demand that the building works are stopped because they hinder and endanger our daily lives:1. our children can no longer walk safely through the neighbourhood and cannot even walk safely to the school bus stop.2. the exits to our properties are blocked by the construction work and we can no longer reach our houses.3. residents will have to live with a disproportionate amount of traffic as the only access road was originally built for a residential area and is also the only access to our houses.4. quiet life in the residential area will be over and dangers will be part of everyday life, especially for children and people with reduced mobility, who are a significant group in this area.5. statistically, supermarket car parks are areas with a high accident rate, as studies have shown. And the car park that ALDI is now proposing to build is even more dangerous because of the narrow road, lack of visibility and the gradient of the road, as it is in the middle of the only access to a large residential area, endangering children who need to catch the school buses.Ultimately, we do not understand how and why anyone would want to put a branch that would objectively need much more space to be functional in a residential area where it would not be economical and would create so many safety problems for residents, customers and centre staff. We ask you to support us with your signature to stop the construction now.No more city monsters. Keine weiteren Stadtmonster.

FROM SEGREGATED ROADS TO DIVERSE TRAFFIC IN ATLANTA

We live in Atlanta, Georgia, which is one of the ten most congested cities in the United States of America. Interstate-20, a four to ten lane mega-highway, is considered the main east-west Interstate highway in Georgia that connects all throughout the southern region. Drivers spend an average of two hours a week stuck at countless points. The population may think they are stuck there because some city planner has made a mistake yet again, but in reality the jams are due to a crucial episode from the past. A decision from the past  Atlanta´s daily traffic has a past rooted by racial segregation causing the divisive lanes and highways from black neighborhoods to the suburbs north of the city. After slavery was banned, whites wanted African-Americans far away from their homes and neighborhoods. They were forced to relocate to the lower-income and low quality neighborhoods, some refer as “the ghetto,” and to make the division amongst the groups more efficient, during the 50s and the 60s the Interstate highway system was constructed. Interstate-20, the new highway in Atlanta, was used to keep black and white neighborhoods apart. The layout of the road was deliberately designed to serve as a border between black and white neighborhoods, as it was stated by Mayor Bill Hartsfield at the time. As a result, even though the neighborhoods are no longer racially segregated, I-20 continues to operate along its original circuitous route, causing huge daily traffic congestion. How does it affect modern Atlanta traffic? Today I-20 not only evokes a racist symbol from the past, but it is also one of the deadliest highways in the United States.  Georgia’s 7 million drivers know that car accidents are an unfortunate reality, and especially when we talk about the famous highway 1-20. And why is that dangerous? This highway is characterized by:  The lack of alternate routes and backroads to avoid the jams. Poor visibility and lighting, especially at night. Many different trucks, out of state drivers, construction traffic jams, and sometimes poor decision-making behind the wheel/breaking the laws of the road. Poor quality of the traffic and exit signs. Currently, according to statistics gathered from Mike Hostilo Law Firm, specialized in personal injury, Atlanta tops the list in a ranking of the top 5 most dangerous cities to drive in the state of Georgia.  Of the 57 most dangerous stretches of highway identified, 13 are in Atlanta, a statistic that is not particularly surprising considering that the capital is by far the largest city in the state. The most dangerous stretches of highway I-20 (is Marker 44) with 5.1 fatal crashes/mile.  Also, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that Georgia’s I-20 is the second most dangerous highway in the United States with 15.5 fatalities per 100 miles. Moreover, Georgia is a state where the car is indispensable and Marta´s reach is not enough to cover the city of Atlanta and the counties surrounding outside the city. Marta was designed on the hopes and intent to provide public transportation for specifically low-income communities with the majority of citizens being a minority. Although, those in high-class suburban neighborhoods refuse Marta with racial disparities and issues, denying the concept of more routes being established in suburban areas with connecting to a more black/minority residential environment, or as some would say “the ghetto.” The current affects that the segregated highways have on modern Atlanta traffic: All the connectors and roads that were for segregation are still built in the same areas. Different counties are more populated. More people and cars on the road. Not enough public transportation being provided, and only provided to a majority of black communities, and also low-income communities. Those who commute from school/work face more difficulty. While racial residential patterns have changed throughout time in Atlanta, the roads and structure have not. Even with suburban neighborhoods being more diverse, people still have a racially opposed view of Marta, although more routes can help lessen traffic while still moving citizens efficiently throughout different areas. Although the traffic doesn’t segregate, I-20 and a lot of other highways have racial and segregational roots with cruel intent of separation amongst communities. Atlanta's traffic is at a halt because the city's attitude toward public transportation is also at a stop. Fifty years after its Interstates were built with segregation in mind, along with its rapid-transit system hampered by white flight, the city is still stuck in the past. We are asking the state to provide the citizens safe mobility throughout our city while we stop ignoring and being oblivious to an old racial trademark that’s still deeply rooted in our highway system. *This petition is also created for student research on the petitioning process.     FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONSULT OUR SOURCES:  https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/08/14/magazine/traffic-atlanta-segregation.html?mtrref=www.nytimes.com&assetType=PAYWALL https://www.usnews.com/news/cities/articles/10-cities-with-the-worst-traffic-in-the-us https://www.11alive.com/article/news/historian-explains- how-atlanta-traffic-traces-back-to-segregation/85-1d393b0d-a2ed-4695-9155-001c88d4ca60 https://mikehostilolawfirm.com https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/atlanta/this-roadway-is-one-most-dangerous-us-it-runs-right-through-atlanta-agency-says/CGI2WGHZ6VFZXJOG7VJOJC4T2Y/ https://www.spauldinginjurylaw.com/blog/dangerous-highways-georgia https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/08/14/magazine/traffic-atlanta-segregation.html https://emorywheel.com/atlantas-traffic-isnt-just-inconvenient-its-racist/
