Petition to Mayor Michael Hancock and City Councilman Albus Brooks
Urge Denver Mayor Hancock & Councilman Brooks to End Sweeps & Repeal Urban Camping Ban!
In 2012 Denver Mayor Hancock and Denver City Councilman Albus Brooks enforced a citywide "Urban Camping Ban", which states that any person who is houseless can face fines and jail due-if they used any type of shelter such as sleeping bags, tarps, or tents. Since 2012, many houseless folx in Denver have faced criminalization for just being houseless. The cost of housing/living has skyrocketed in the Denver Metro Area; leaving many Coloradans with low-pay, displacement, and no shelter. While Mayor Hancock and Albus Brooks continue to profit off of gentrification, shelters are at capacity with poor conditions like bedbugs, mold and many people face discrimination based on their sexual identity and history. As the temperature drops, Mayor Hancock has ordered The Denver Police Department to "Sweep" several areas where houseless folx have found safe space. DPD often gives little to no resources to these folx they have criminalized-forcing them with no place to go and taking away what little possessions they own. Houselessness, is a direct result of low-wage jobs, racism/discrimination, gentrification, displacement, and not enough resources. We are asking Mayor Hancock and City Councilman Albus Brooks to end the sweeps, repeal the Urban Camping Ban and provide direct and reliable resources for houseless folx in Denver. Please sign this petition today to let Mayor Hancock and Councilman Albus Brooks know that the criminalization of homelessness is inhumane and that HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT! http://www.denverpost.com/2016/12/05/homeless-sweeps-denver-city-council-repeal-camping-ban/ https://denverhomelessoutloud.org/top-13-reasons-the-urban-camping-ban-does-not-work/ http://www.westword.com/news/dpd-crackdown-on-homeless-camping-ban-enforcement-up-500-percent-7933788

Bring Tebow back to Denver!
We started this movement when the Broncos lost Manning to retirement, and Osweiler to Houston. Today the same idea rings true. We need a quarterback, deny reality all you want, but Tebow should be our guy. He is the spark we need. He is an original Bronco. Do the right thing Denver and give us hope! All the guy does is win, period. Please share this all over! #TebowTime

Denver Community Planning & Development: Say NO to Re-Zoning Historic Park Hill
The Greater Park Hill Zoning Chair notified our family that the new owners of 5315 Montview are applying to re-zone their property. They have plans to divide and develop the garden portion of the property. According to the City Zoning Code, amended in 2010, the property does not qualify as zoned U-SU-H and would need additional variances based on the setback requirements. However, they are filing the application with the Planning Department. If the City decides not to uphold the Zoning Code which was instated 5 years ago, it is absolute that a precedent will be set and many of the 10,000sf+ properties along Montview and in Park Hill will be threatened with subdivision and development. A representative of the Planning Department asked that we share our opinions with our District Representative Chris Herndon (email@example.com). If you or any of your neighbors would like additional information please contact me directly at blairntaylor at gmail.com. We welcome your input and look forward to additional support for this neighborhood initiative.

Benefits for Colorado Natives
We can all agree that Denver is one of the fastest growing and most popular cities to live in, but that growth is severely hindering our quality of life. As Colorado natives, we shouldn't be forced out of Denver because of growth, and our quality of life shouldn't decrease because our city happens to be so wonderful. Colorado Natives should be reminded why our state is so great and why Denver is the best city in the country - not how much we are growing to hate it because of the thousands of people moving here every month. Natives should have perks like discount parking, free parking days, express lanes, or free tolls.

Name our school anything other than Koson
Recently, our parents all received a newsletter informing the student body that our school, STEM High and Academy will be renamed "Koson STEM." While many agree that the name "STEM High" is generic and confusing, many students believe that this name lacks credibility and logic. While the play on "Boson" and "K" is clever, many believe that this could be problematic when applying to colleges. The name Koson does not carry the connotation of academic rigor. We also find it concerning that neither students nor teachers were consulted before changing the name we thought we would be putting on resumés and college applications. The goal of this petition is to prevent the name change to "Koson STEM." We propose that the name shall be blocked and alternative options considered. The school could be named after a person, place, or idea. However, if a suitable candidate is not found by July (the proposed official time for the name change), then a name change should not occur. The email states: "The process included interviews, surveys, discussions, observations, competitive industry reviews and analysis. We learned so much." Can we see a report on some of this data? Were other names even considered, and if so, what were they? If administration is going to hand us a name without giving us say in what it is, can they at least support the name they chose with the research and analysis they claim they did? While we strongly suggest that student input be considered while selecting a new name, this is not an official concern of the petition. We are more concerned with administration picking a name that conveys the rigorous, real-world education provided by our beloved school. The email states: "This fall, our school will finally have the name and brand it deserves!" We deserve better than Koson. #StopKoson
