Petition to Motion Church, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department

Motion Church: Adopt a Masking Policy Now!

The goal of this petition is for Motion Church to enforce a masking policy for its three campuses and intern program for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.  With a confirmed number of over thirty-five thousand cases of COVID-19, Pierce County has been one of the hardest hit in Washington during the pandemic. Businesses have been shuttered for months, many more have lost their jobs, and over five hundred people have died from COVID-19 complications over the course of the last year.  Despite all this collective loss within our community, Motion Church has been holding services and large events on a weekly basis with no proper COVID-19 protocol at all three of its campuses, putting hundreds at risk. Many of these at risk are young, unpaid Motion Interns who have no say in how the congregation chooses to operate.  Many concerned parents of Motion Interns, as well as other community members have asked the church in the past to adopt proper COVID-19 masking and social distancing rules, but have been met with silence or excuses from the church about how the virus isn’t real.  Guidelines for places of worship set forth by the state indicate that places of worship may be open, but they must adhere to proper COVID-19 masking and social distancing protocols. We are asking Motion Church to adhere to these guidelines for any event or service they choose to hold in the future, and for the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to ensure that this is enforced.

Petition to Best Buy, Corie Barry

Best Buy Employees & Customers to Restrict Maskless Customers

I am a Best Buy retail employee and have received guidance to allow customers without masks to enter, shop, interact with employees and other customers, and check out. All with zero repercussions or any questions about their presence in our store. First, the state I work in has state mandates requiring masks when shopping indoors; not enforcing this is in conflict to state mandates. Second, employees have not accepted this job with the risks associated with maskless customers. Third, our company is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act in that we provide curbside pickup for those unable to wear a mask in stores. With this, there should be no question about a zero tolerance policy for those unwilling or unable to wear a mask in our stores cannot enter our stores. In order to achieve these reasonable standards we should take a firm stance against customers who refuse to wear masks and not allow them to enter our stores. As a Best Buy retail employee I have spoken to multiple store manager and to the Best Buy Ethics team and I have received zero reassurance that this concern will be appropriately addressed. As employees and customers we need to stand up for our beliefs and safety.  There are plenty of other retailers who have set the precedent that those who refuse to wear a mask in their store are not allowed entry. As a company that claims to pride itself on its ethics we should be one of those retailers. It is unethical to subject employees and customers to these risks.  I want to see Best Buy take the COVID-19 pandemic with the severity it warrants, and take a firm stance against those that seek to prolong its effects at home, and nationwide. Please sign this petition to align yourself with these values. If you can please also reach out to the corporate team to voice these concerns. They’re active on Twitter @BestBuy and @BestBuySupport. The general corporate customer service number is 1-800-237-8289. The general corporate office number is 1-612-291-1000. And Corie Barry’s, Best Buy’s CEO, email is corie.barry@bestbuy.com. Petition to UMass Amherst

Allow Off Campus UMass Students to Work Their Off Campus Jobs During Quarantine

After a rise in COVID-19 cases in the Amherst, MA area due to on campus students, UMass Amherst issued a stay at home quarantine for 14 days. Students can only leave their on-campus or off-campus housing for essential things such as grocery shopping, essential jobs and those related to laboratory work, and to get tested. They then called all local grocery stores (Whole Foods and Target amongst them) and told them to not allow any UMass students to work for the next 14 days, and if they are caught working, they can be suspended. Many off campus students who have jobs at these stores need the money for necessities such as bills, rent, and food. The 14 days without pay prevent their stability in an already stressful time. The off campus students who rely on their part-time jobs heavily should not have to sacrifice their basic needs for the poor decisions of on-campus students who contributed to the rise of COVID-19 cases in the area. I am asking you all to sign this petition to tell UMass Amherst Administration that they cannot take away an off campus student's right to work a part-time job in the area. I am calling on them to reverse their decision to not allow off campus students to work their part-time jobs in the area, to call back the businesses, and to not take any action against off campus students who take the risk to work to maintain their basic needs. Please also use this link to flood admin emails!! SGA created this email campaign to let admin know your personal stories and how their decisions are affecting students. Together we can make a difference in students' lives! https://www.umass.edu/sga/student-jobs/
