Boycott S. Korea until they stop the torturing and eating companion animals

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Cowardice asks the question: Is it safe? Expediency asks the question: Is it politic? Vanity asks the question: Is it popular? But, conscience asks the question: Is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right." Today, we have decided to listen to our conscience and send this letter of request to the South Korean government to please stop the horrible cruelty and abuse of companion animals - Dog and Cat Consumption. People of the world are learning about the tragic plight of millions of dogs and cats in S. Korea. Every day we are hearing and seeing heartbreaking stories, photos and videos of the companion animals being subjected to most painful and terrible abuses and we become lost of words to express our sadness for these innocent animals. They are raised in tiny feces encrusted steel cages with no protection from the harsh weather, fed rotten food wastes from restaurants that is not suitable for dogs such as spicy fermented cabbage with hot chili peppers. We have also heard that these dogs are not even allowed to drink waters. They never feel the joy of touching the ground or running through grass, never exercise or chew a bone or know freedom. They are deprived of everything that is natural to them all their lives. They live in these appalling conditions totally lack of any compassion from human until they are slaughtered in most inhumane ways. How can a modern society such as S. Korea still commit these unspeakable cruelties to dogs and cats who are known to be the most intelligent, loyal and loving companions to humans? We are learning that this practice of eating dogs and cats are not really Korean "Tradition" nor "Culture". Ms. Cho has explained it very well in her article.  However, even if this was a Korean "Tradition" and "Culture", people should evolve and discontinue what is not acceptable to the human conscience as being right. Human sacrifice used to be a "Tradition" and "Culture" for certain tribes. Does this mean that this is beyond reproach and it should be continued today? Dedicated animal advocates and people within S. Korea who believes that this practice of torturing and eating companion animals is not only distasteful but despicable are campaigning everyday online and on the streets of S. Korea. So please listen to your citizens who cares about not only these animals of S. Korea but the interest of S. Korea in the world. Caring people of the world will not stop speaking out against this betrayal and violence towards these helpless sentient beings who can feel the same things that we feel as human as long as S. Korea continues eating them. We cared about the people of S. Korea enough to send our loved ones to risk their lives to fight for your freedom in the 1950s during the Korean War. Now we care about your dogs and cats who are suffering the most horrific abuse and cruelty in the dog meat industry in your country. We will not buy S. Korean Products. We will not use S. Korean Services. And we will not visit S. Korea until your government takes the steps to ban all dog and cat meat industries and strengthen the animal protection law to not only protect the pets but to provide protection to all dogs and cats regardless of their breeds. Ms. Cho wrote, "In Korea, there is a word, "Me-Pung-Yang-Sok" which means "Beautiful custom and good morals" and refers when one culture deserves respect. I have never heard any Koreans call Dog meat as "Me-Pung-Yang-Sok". Dog meat consumption is NOT a real Korean traditional food but the base of animal cruelty in Korea." Please, we request to you, the leaders of the S. Korean government, to do what your conscience tells you is right. Stop the dog and cat consumption! Petition to Jennifer Ryder, Tara Smith, Help Sweetie Home, Bill Lowery

PLEASE HELP A VETERAN WITH PTSD GET HIS STOLEN COMPANION DOG BACK!! Bill Lowery's dog was lured out of his backyard by thieves and taken from her loving home on November 7, 2016. Dozens of animal advocates have been helping him search for her ever since. Bill visited the Franklin County Animal Shelter many times in the following two months hoping that someone found her and dropped her off, but she was never there. Bill came down with a rare blood disease and was on chemo meds taking care of his mother in January and didn't make it to he shelter the week she was brought in. When she was brought in the shelter noticed what looked like abuse and neglect(which any dog would after being gone for 2 months). She looked like what the rescue described as a "bait dog" The shelter labeled her as a "rescue only" and after the mandatory 72 hour stray hold, Franklin County took possession of the dog and Adopt a Pit Rescue in Dayton took her in. It was only then that a picture of her circulated and Bill saw her and realized it was his dog! Yaaay! Right? Wrong! Bill contacted the rescue and was told he would have to go through the same adoption process of anyone else because the dog was never registered or microchipped. She also felt he had caused the abuse and said the scars seemed "very old". Pictures were sent to her showing her a few days before she went missing and they show she was perfectly healthy without a scratch on her! Anything that happened to her was caused by the people who stole her. He filled out the application and then was told he had to neuter, vaccinate, and microchip his other dog (Sweeties brother) to be able to still be considered. He complied immediately and  48 hours later, he  sent the proof to the rescue: he was then told that she had already been adopted out, by the director. No warning, just sorry your dog has been adopted.  We are now in a desperate search for the owners to plead for her return. How can this happen? How can someone take possession of your loved one who helps you cope the with PTSD that you were diagnosed with, after serving this great country? There is no one regulating these dog rescues and we were told that they can deny applications for any reason at all. It is up to the director directly to chooses who gets to adopt a dog and who doesn't. And since a dog is a "possession" and possession is 9/10ths of the law there is little to nothing you can do if someone else is in possession of YOUR DOG! This has to change!! Please help get Sweetie home to her loving family who needs her!! Loved dogs don't need to be "rescued". There are plenty of other dogs out there who need loving homes! Please get this girl back to where she belongs by signing our petition to Help Sweetie Home! And let's get some guidelines into place so this can NEVER happen again!!!! Please visit our Facebook page "Help Sweetie Home" for updates or if you would like to help in any way! Thank you!

Petition to City of Austin Municipal Court

Save Neville the Dog!

Austin Pets Alive! promotes the safety of humans and of our animals. Neville was taken into Austin Pets Alive!’s rescue program a few months ago. Neville is a young, friendly dog who has never shown any signs of aggression. On September 22, Neville was playing with other dogs in a play yard when a family entered the yard to visit the dogs. The parents were advised by a staff member not to put their small son on the ground, because the dogs were playing energetically and a toddler could easily be accidentally knocked over. However, the child was placed on the ground and allowed to grab Neville, who unfortunately bit the child. It is a very unfortunate situation for everyone, as we would never want a child to be harmed. However, we believe this was entirely preventable had our staff’s instructions and common sense been followed. The family pleaded to the court system to have the dog killed, and Municipal Court Judge Clervi issued an order that Neville be killed, despite the evidence we presented. “We don’t believe this is a dangerous dog,” said Mike Kaviani, APA!’s Dog Behavior Team manager. ”He did not seek out the child to bite, he was simply reacting to the child who cornered him. We haven’t been given any options at all other than killing the dog or we would be taking them. We are saddened and outraged we were not given an opportunity to find a better outcome for Neville.” “Dogs can’t speak to us and tell us they don’t like something we are doing,” said Kaviani “They have limited ways to communicate and it’s our job to understand that.” Austin Pets Alive! has created this petition in hopes of allowing Neville to be saved and placed in a home outside of Travis county.
