Petition to Sadiq Khan, ENFIELD COUNCIL
Resuscitate Green Lanes ! Bring the High Street back to Life before it's too late !
Businesses on the high street have been majorly effected by the road works currently taking place in order to create cycle lanes in the area which was opposed by around 80% of the local residents and businesses in the beginning. We opened Pussy Bow Boutique in September 2015 and since have been trying to build up a new local business and clientele base which is already a challenge in itself within this turbulent retail market. However since 2016 all the businesses including ourselves had heard about the idea of implementing a cycle lane throughout Green Lanes and taking parking for customers and local residents away which almost everyone did not think would be a good idea, the local council along with Sadiq Khan ignored the peoples views and concerns by going ahead without any consideration or empathy. Due to the distribution our sales have fallen, there is no longer parking for customers, the pavements have been blocked off preventing all our deliveries coming in, heavy traffic, accidents have been caused... complete mayhem ! DISASTER ZONE ! Furthermore, Enfield Council has increased the rate-able value which ideally with the old rate-able value would have meant we would have been exempt of business rates instead with the increased our payments remaining the same and no sign of small business relief. How can you justify a small shop selling a product, not offering a service to survive under these circumstances??? We want the rate-able value reassessed, we want business rates reduced, we want our high street to accommodate for our customers and most importantly we want it to be safe for the public, children and those who wish to cycle.
Petition to Monmouthshire County Council, Councillor Peter fox
Support Monmouth's small businesses to save our high street
Many of Monmouth's small businesses are under threat from increased business rates and there has also been talk of charges being made by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) for shops which put tables and A-boards on the pavement (though this has been temporarily suspended). Some small businesses have already had to close and we are worried that our high street will die if action is not taken. Many people are employed in our local shops, and the knock on effect of more closures would be felt across the County. We are asking MCC to take two actions: to reconsider its Street Furniture Policy with a view to setting it permanently aside; regarding business rates it should exercise its discretionary powers under Section 49 of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 to make reductions in the non-domestic rates payable by businesses that would otherwise suffer hardship. Don't let our high street die. Support Monmouth's businesses.
Petition to The Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP
Freeze the Government's Business Rates Rise!
Huge Government increases in business rates bills for Islington businesses could see small and medium sized businesses forced to close or move out of the borough. The Government needs to freeze the implementation of the business rates rise. The Government has revalued the rateable value of businesses in Islington, which will see massive increases in business rates bills for local companies. The Government’s increase in rateable values for business premises in Islington is the 3rd highest in England at approximately 45%. As business representatives and the local council, we are deeply concerned about the Government’s revaluation of rateable values and the impact increases in business rates will have on local businesses, especially small and medium sized companies. The Government’s increase in business rates could force businesses out of the borough and prevent new businesses from starting up. The Government needs to look again at the impact the revaluation will have on businesses in Islington. Sign the petition to call on the Government to – Freeze the implementation of the business rates revaluation until after Britain leaves the European Union, to provide protection for businesses that will be impacted by the uncertainty of Brexit. Extend transitional reliefs for businesses affected by higher business rates. Give help to small businesses by increasing the threshold for Small Business Rate Relief in inner London, funded by national Government. This petition is jointly organised by Islington Chamber of Commerce and Angel BID and supported by Islington Council.
