Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche Should Step Down
Given the seriousness and credibility of the accusations against Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, we ask that he immediately suspend all of his teaching and governance functions within the Shambhala Mandala. Provisions should be made for community members to have a say in who should take over these functions until thorough internal and external reviews can be made, and until the community can collectively decide how to move forward. *Note - The accusations against SMR are detailed in a report released by the Buddhist Project Sunshine, and can be found at the following link (trigger warning: the report details experiences of sexual abuse in frank language): http://andreamwinn.com/project_sunshine/Buddhist_Project_Sunshine_Phase_2_Final_Report.pdf

Save our Buddha Statue in the Palms Neighborhood in Los Angeles
For months, the Buddha statue located at Jasmine Avenue and National Boulevard in Palms has blessed our community as a focal point and a source of pride. A couple of people have attempted to exert their own interests by desecrating the Buddha statue six times in the last couple of months and lobbying to the City that our community is against the Buddha statue. We will not let a couple of people speak for our community and dictate what direction our community goes in. The Buddha Statue has strengthened and mobilized our community as illustrated with our quick response to the desecration of the Buddha statue in the form of erecting a new Buddha statue and continuing to celebrate & enhance Buddha and add to his current home. We have reinforced the Buddha statue with steel rebar and concrete. We have also made a commitment to adding additional security for the Buddha statue and installing a new rock garden surrounding the Buddha statue. Two nearby buildings have offered a location for a security camera to tape, view, and help keep the Buddha statue safe. Our community overwhelmingly supports the Buddha Statue. We will work with the City, the Motor Avenue Neighborhood Association, and Neighborhood Council to help with efforts to permit the median for the Buddha statue and move forward with all other improvements. To learn more about the Buddha statue and more ways to help, visit http://www.motorassociation.org/ Since you are one of our community leaders, I urge you to continue supporting the Buddha statue.
