Petition to Norfolk County Council
Save Eva Brook Donly Museum and Archives, please sign the petition to show Norfolk cares!
It is time, as a community, we stand together, to show the Norfolk County council we care about Eva Brook Donly Museum and Archives. Council passed a motion in Committee on July 4th to change Eva Brook into ONLY a central archive for all of Norfolk County and remove the collection of artifacts to other county museum, being Waterford, Delhi, and Port Dover. Eva Brook Donly Museum and Archives would no longer be open to the public to see the home or act as a museum. This was against the recommendation of the Norfolk County Heritage and Culture Manager. The recommended option entails, hiring 2.5 full time employees, Norfolk County would contribute $242,000 to the operation, along with a one-time capital cost of approximately $100,000 to allow for the building to be outfitted as the central repository for archival material. This is the best option for Eva Brook! However, other options are to replicate how other County museum are structure. Another being to close the site and the third is to amalgamate both the Norfolk County Arts Centre and Eva Brook. For the motion put in place by council to be stopped, the motion needs to be pulled for council to re-consider. This site is a very important landmark and site that needs to be preserved in Norfolk County or else it will become another lost part of our collective Norfolk County heritage. On July 11th, council altered the motion put in place on July 4th. The new motion put in place causes the Manager of Heritage and Culture to come back with more options for both a museum and archive. However, this does not ensure that Eva Brook Donly Museum and Archives will remain open to the public. In signing this petition, you want both the museum and archives to remain open for the public for the continued success of Eva Brook Donly Museum and Archives.
