To Dawson County, Ga. School Superintendent Damon Gibbs, Dawson County, Ga School Board, Dawson County, Ga Head Football Coach Maxwell and all other Coaches,
We would respectively ask that you consider purchasing uniforms and equipment for the Dawson County Tigers from another company besides Nike. Nike has recently made it clear that they do not have respect for our Nation’s flag, history or Veterans by discontinuing production of a shoe displaying an American flag after objections from their spokesperson, Colin Kaepernick. Mr. Kaepernick claims he finds the American flag “offensive” and has repeatedly refused to stand during the National Anthem during NFL games. As a proud resident of Dawson County, I do not believe that Nike and Mr. Kaepernick’s views represent the majority of people in our community. DAWSONVILLE honors, respects and appreciates our many Veterans in this county and Nation. This is evident throughout the year as we celebrate and memorialize those who serve and who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. I do not think that Nike’s stance is something we need to support, nor want our young athletes advertising. The signers of this petition ask that our money is no longer used to support this anti-American company and that we would find another vendor to supply our uniforms and equipment.
