Tell Congress to Keep Gas Prices Low

My name is Carrie Anne and I am a single mom of two living in Florida. Since the loss of the child tax credit at the beginning of this year I have made budget cuts, used coupons more, and held off on fun activities for my girls in order to make ends meet. However, all of that frugality goes out the window when I get to the gas pump. Every penny I managed to save elsewhere ends up going in the tank to get us where we need to go, school, work, Girl Scout meetings. As we come out of this pandemic, we cannot sit at home and do nothing. We have places to go, and so does the rest of America.  Oil companies have been making record profits over the last decade. Please join me in signing this petition to tell Congress to protect and support people, not big oil.  Please join me in signing the petition to tell Congress they must support everyday Americans immediately, by either reducing the price of gas, or getting extra cash to folks to cover these new added costs.  Send the message: Enough is Enough, Congress must support and prioritize everyday people, not big oil.

Stiffer Punishment Against Animal Abuses in Singapore

Dogs, the only creature that get excited when it sees it's owner.  They are known for their loyalty, bravery, intelligence and kindness. In fact, it is said that they are created to teach us how to love.  And love we did. We showered our pet dogs with everything we've got. We pampered them with the best food, we brought them to a vet at the slightest sign of discomfort. We literally treat our pet as part of the family.  However, some people have no qualms in taking away our family members.  This petition is created to seek justice for those voiceless furry kids who can't speak for themselves nor tell us what happened inside facility and how much they have suffered. This petition would also like to seek a stiffer punishment for future would-be animal abusers in Singapore.  Thanks!  PS: This petition will be regularly updated to bring you evidence of ongoing animal abuses that are still prevalent in our society today.

    Petition to Singapore Government

Singapore says 'No' to wearable devices for Covid-19 contact tracing

The Government of the Republic of Singapore proposes that wearable devices be adopted for use by the general population in near-future efforts to reliably achieve contact tracing of persons that have recently come into contact with a Covid-19 infected person. Minister-in-charge of the Smart Nation initiative, Vivian Balakrishnan, announced the proposal on June 5. He cited poor inter-operability of the existing Trace Together smartphone app across various brands of smartphones as well as the Government's subsequent non-compulsory usage stance as reasons for developing a wearable device.  Such a device, if proven to be successful in trials - and subsequently made available to everyone - would allow contact tracers to locate a person's whereabouts based on their proximity to other persons' phones, cell towers, or potentially their wearable devices themselves. This will be done regardless of whether the person has a phone or not; regardless whether their phone is switched off or on; whether that person is within reception of a cell tower or not; and regardless whether their phone has wifi or Bluetooth switched off or on. The only thing that stops this device from potentially being allowed to track citizens' movements 24/7 are: if the wearable device runs out of power; if a counter-measure device that broadcasts a jamming signal masking the device's whereabouts; or if the person chooses to live 'off the grid' in total isolation, away from others and outside of any smartphone/device effective range.  All that is stopping the Singapore Government from becoming a surveillance state is the advent and mandating the compulsory usage of such a wearable device. What comes next would be laws that state these devices must not be turned off/remain on a person at all times - thus sealing our fate as a police state.  Thus, we reject the development of this contact tracing device. We view its advent and subsequent implementation with great suspicion and indignation. The claims that such a device be implemented 'for the greater good' and for 'the safety and protection of all Singaporeans' are false and baseless. According to media reports, the non-successful adoption of the Trace Together app can be superceded by the next step that state-sanctioned technological advancements can offer: and this is it. The Government looks to the Covid-19 pandemic as the perfect excuse to realise what it has always envisioned for us - this country's populace: to surveil us with impunity, to track us without any technological inhibitions, and maintain a form of movement monitoring on each of us at all times and places. And to do so by decreeing it compulsory for all law-abiding persons to become 'recipients'. We - as free, independent, and lawful members of the public of Singapore - condemn the device's implementation as blatant infringements upon our rights to privacy, personal space, and freedom of movement. We reject the notion that the non-efficacy of the Trace Together initiative be superceded by a regime that could potentially require all members of the public (regardless of their age, susceptibility to disease, or health status) to give up these rights under fear - not of infection from Covid-19 - but of prosecution by the state.

    Save Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick

SAVE SYDNEY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL RANDWICK Cooper was 10 days old when we brought him to hospital with a viral illness. Transferred to Sydney Children’s Hospital (SCH) Randwick, it was unknown that his heart was suffering from myocarditis. Soon after arrival, he went into cardiac arrest needing CPR for 26minutes. If not for the presence of the SCH Cardiac Surgical Team, Cooper would not have survived. Cardiac Surgical services at SCH are essential for the safety of all children being cared for at Randwick. SCH has provided safe cardiac surgery for decades. The State Government is proposing to close the SCH cardiac surgical service. Critically ill babies and children will face life threatening delays in receiving treatment if our service closes. Cooper would not have survived waiting for a Westmead Team to mobilise & travel 43 km down the M4 to Randwick. SCH provides comprehensive health care to 40% of the children of NSW, and receives 75% of state-wideemergency retrievals of critically ill children. Complex surgeries and treatments, including comprehensive cancer care, required by children at SCH need on-site cardiac surgery for support. Please sign our petition to instruct the NSW State Government to maintain an appropriately funded cardiac surgical program at SCH Randwick.

Require Ferguson and St. Louis County and City police officers to wear body cameras

My name is Courtney Curtis. I’m a native of Ferguson, Missouri. I’ve spent my whole life in this community. Now, I am fortunate enough to represent our community in the State Legislature. But I’m still a young black man who has encountered problems with the police. Five years ago, while waiting for a college friend of mine in his gated community in Kansas City, I was handcuffed, had my car searched against my will and was almost arrested. My crime? Sitting on the back of my car, working on my business plan, while waiting for a friend. I filed a complaint. No action was ever taken. Fast-forward five years. I was pulled over for supposedly having a broken tail light. After the police officer runs my ID, he comes back and says the tail light is back on. Must have been a short, he says. Three days later, an unarmed Mike Brown was killed in the street. One incident brushed under the rug, another goes horribly wrong. The killing of Michael Brown made me sick. But what keeps me up at night is that it will happen again unless we do something. We can’t bring Michael Brown back – but we can make sure his death is not in vain. It is up to us to do something. That's why I'm asking for the St. Louis County Police Department, the St. Louis City Police Department and the Ferguson Police Department to require police officers to wear cameras. We're simultaneously going to file legislation requiring police officers all across Missouri to wear cameras. Sign this petition to support our cause and help get these bills passed. Attaching cameras to the police officers' uniforms would come with many benefits. The cameras would cost a few hundreds dollars each and would: - Provide greater transparency and a constant third party witness.- Enhance police and citizen motivation to act lawfully and truthfully.- Lessen the chance of deadly force being used by police.- Increase citizen's trust of his/her police force thanks to recorded actions. Police departments are using or testing on-body cameras and they're reportedly reducing police misconduct. When the Rialto Police Department in California adopted cameras, the number of complaints filed against officers fell by 88 percent and the use of force by officers fell by almost 60 percent. There are still so many things unknown about Michael Brown’s death it’s astonishing. And still more change is needed for a true eradication of the types of problems that led to Michael’s death. But one thing we can control and do right now is to create accountability – for both police and citizens – with a digital record of what happens when a police officer interacts with a citizen. Vest cameras won’t solve all of our problems – but they will be a good start – and will create an accurate record of what happens. The trust between my community, others and law enforcement is broken. Until all police departments have cameras in place, the trust will continue to be broken. Let's join together and ask for that trust to be restored with this first step. Councilwoman Erby and I are asking for your signature on this petition so that we can continue to push for Ferguson, St. Louis County and St. Louis City police to adopt cameras, then start the process of enacting body camera legislation in Missouri.
