Petition to College of Pharmacists of British Columbia, Ontario College of Pharmacists, Quebec Order of Pharmacists
La traduction en français suit... Despite clear consumer and patient demand for access to homeopathic remedies, Canadian pharmacists are under increasing pressure to remove them from their store shelves. Small, well-organized skeptic groups are pressuring Canadian pharmacy colleges, most specifically The Ontario College of Pharmacists and The College of Pharmacists of British Columbia, to discourage the sale of homeopathic products in pharmacies.  Quebec pharmacists have also been encouraged to discontinue selling homeopathic products; many now display disclaimers on the shelves next to the products. As a public education organization that believes in the value of homeopathy to enhance individual health and solve Canadian – and global - health challenges, HANS defends consumers’ and patients’ right to purchase Health Canada approved products wherever they’re most accessible.  In the same spirit of health freedom, we support each pharmacy’s right to recommend and sell them. Natural Health Products (NHPs) that have been approved and issued an NPN or DIN-HM by Health Canada must be made available to the Canadian public without institutional obstruction or interference from pharmacy colleges.  84 per cent of Canadians state that people should be free to purchase whatever medicine they want, provided it has been proven to be safe. Homeopathic medicines are remarkably safe and work well as complements to conventional medicines without interaction or contraindication. Homeopathy can be safely used by pregnant women, children, infants, and the elderly. Homeopathy’s efficacy is often questioned by individuals and organizations who want to suppress it.  The truth is: there is plenty of research that supports homeopathy!  You can find a solid summary of ailment-specific evidence on the HANS website and plenty of research-based evidence at the Homeopathy Research Institute. Canadian demand for homeopathic medicine is high and climbing.  In the past year, approximately 4.9 million Canadians used homeopathic products with a 77 per cent satisfaction rate. Suppression or obstruction of access to homeopathic medicines is not respectful of the diversity of health traditions of a multi-cultural Canada. Help us send a clear message to The Ontario College of Pharmacists and The College of Pharmacists of British Columbia that Canadians want sustained access to homeopathy; and, that Canadian pharmacists are legally entitled to sell any Health Canada-approved products their customers demand. The College of Pharmacists of British Columbia). Petition to The Honorable Terry Lake
Canadians, let us stand up and fight for our rights to access safe and effective natural health products! Specifically, we need your support to bring back lumbrokinase (an enzyme complex extracted from earthworms; a Traditional Chinese Medicine ingredient) in Canada. WHY SHOULD YOU CARE? The Problem:Evidence suggests that overzealous NNHPD officials have inadvertently brought about the loss of some safe and effective natural health products over the past 10 years, including oral enzymes like lumbrokinase and nattokinase. Why and How does this affect you? Many Canadians believe in the philosophy of natural preventative care, and the loss of access to some products has impacted Canadians? ability to achieve and maintain optimal health. You may not believe in natural health care or see a natural health practitioner (e.g. ND, DC, Acupuncturist, etc.), but I believe that most Canadians respect the various health care philosophies and cherish the multi-cultural society we live in. If you would stand up for the right to practice religion, wouldn't you stand up for the right to access safe and effective natural health products which are important to the practice of natural health care? The Solution: Let the Minister of Health know that you demand your right to natural health care and to access safe and effective natural health products. Start by asking The Honourable Jane Philpott MP to bring back the enzyme lumbrokinase (an enzyme complex extracted from earthworms ? a Traditional Chinese Medicine ingredient), which is currently under assessment. BACKGROUND: As a naturopathic physician and an executive of a company that produces a lumbrokinase product, I have been working hard to bring back lumbrokinase for Canadian doctors and patients for the past eight years.Currently, we are near the end of the product assessment process, and NHPD will likely make its final decision within the next few months. In the case of lumbrokinase, the submitted evidence was quite comprehensive and included Traditional Chinese Medicine texts, animal toxicity data, pharmacokinetics data, Phase I-III clinical trials data, many double-blind placebo-controlled data, systematic reviews, and post-marketing safety data from China and North America. However, after personally dealing with NHPD for so many years, I have little faith that it will fulfill its mandate. Therefore, YOUR VOICE IS URGENTLY NEEDED! Please join us and sign this petition. Let the Minister of Health, The Honourable Jane Philpott MP, know that you demand your rights to natural health care and to access safe and effective natural health products, specifically lumbrokinase.? If we can successfully bring back lumbrokinase, then there may still be hope for those natural health products that were inadvertently removed from Canadian market by overzealous NNHPD officials (e.g. nattokinase, shark liver oil, emu oil in capsule form, etc.)? I would also encourage you to write a letter to The Honourable Jane Philpott MP and your local Member of Parliament. I encourage you to use your own words, but have provided some sample letters for your reference on www.FightForLumbroAccess.com. Please spread the words via your Facebook, LinkedIn, chat groups, etc. and ask your colleagues and friends to join the letter writing campaign or sign the on-line petition. If you would like to learn more about this campaign, the lumbrokinase enzyme, or have any questions/comments, please visit the website: www.FightForLumbroAccess.com. ?Read more
