In the early hours of Saturday two illegal shelters were hit by forest fires, and many people rushed to rescue the dogs and cats living there, in horrid conditions, from the flames. The two owners of those shelters blocked all help. The police (GNR) blocked all help, claiming they could not let anyone in because it was private property, and the owners wouldn't allow anyone in. There were firemen on the scene, who were also stopped by the police from helping the animals. Over 50 animals, mostly dogs, died burning, some of them biting their metal chains to death... After an horrible life, an unimaginable death. All the while there were hundreds of people outside ready to rescue all victims, begging to be allowed in. Eventually people trespassed and rushed in, rescuing by force all the remaining animals still alive. We would like you to sign to bring justice to the animals that died burning, chained, in horror. And to bring attention to the lack of education that thrives in the midst of our police, so that in the future a tragedy like this will not be possible. In fact, in the Portuguese Law, the police commit a crime by denying assistance to animals in danger. Our Law already states that Life is more important than property. The police officers on the scene lacked appropriate education. Please consider signing and sharing to help prevent another tragedy like this. Thank you.
