Fred Olsen ~ Stop Cruising To The Faroe Islands

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHkp7UTuVuI By visiting the Faroe Islands you are supporting the economy of a country which is slaughtering pilot whales and dolphins in high numbers despite disgust from the rest of Europe and the world. Pilot whales are renowned for the intense and close nature of their society. At the time of slaughter most of these animals are pregnant or with calf. None survive, none are shown any compassion. By killing these cetaceans they are wiping out a complete genetic pool and future generations.  As well as supporting this economy, there is a very real chance that passengers aboard your liner may see a "grind". Thrashing and turning in a scarlet sea, the pilot whales cannot escape the knife blows raining down. Once driven into the shallows, they are forced to bathe in the blood of their relatives and companions, their distress is palpable. This can happen at any beach deemed suitable for a slaughter.  Already this year, 3 grinds have taken place while cruise liners have been docked at the Faroe Islands. The Fred Olsen liner BlackWatch was one of them. Docked on the 5th of July, a grind was called. The result ~ the slaughter of 70 pilot whales. This horrific spectacle is much more frequent than you think. 900+ whales and dolphins have been killed since May 21st this year. The Faroe islanders do not stop the slaughter for tourists. An international football match was being held on the Faroe Islands. While the travelling support were making their way to the game, they happened to see a grind taking place. The words of one fan ~ "They were hacking the whales to bits on the beach! The blood was everywhere. I will never ever be back! it was terrible" Please think on this. Is this what you want your passengers lasting memory of their vacation aboard your liner to be?

Stop Cruising! For An International Ban on Cruise Ships

** DON'T FORGET TO SHARE AFTER SIGNING FOR MAXIMUM OUTREACH** 1 cruise ship brings to our atmosphere as much fine particule pollution as 1 million cars daily. There are 500 cruise ships on our seas to this day and counting, which represent as much air pollution as 500 million cars every single day. That is HALF the amount of cars worldwide, and it can be eradicated by stopping JUST 500 SHIPS. In addition to that extreme air pollution, those 500 cruise ships cause dramatic ocean pollution, with constant discharge of millions of gallons of fuel, sewage and garbage thrown directly into the water. 1 of the 3 biggest cruise liner was recently condemned for 800 counts of violation, in 1 year alone, while on probation. They pollute, they know it, they don't care. That pollution is absolutely not necessary to the daily life of humans on earth. It is caused for sole human entertainment. A global ban on that so superfluous business would instantly reduce massively air and ocean pollution in the world.   People's awareness is limited and the market is booming. It is one of the fastest growing hospitality sectors in the world and the amount of ships built increases every year... Cruise liners gross billions of dollars and will not be stopped as long as we the people do not lobby for a ban and boycott of that industry. It can start with growing people's awarness and locally with cities banning cruise ships from their harbors, then by forcing our countries to ban that business for good, country by country. Sign and share the petition and be part of that movement that must and will grow worldwide. The ban starts HERE and NOW. Let's reach a million signature and start a people's lobby to put this massive unnecessary pollution to a stop.

QANTAS: Forgotten Heroes of Qantas Flight QF72!

After more than 11 years, we the undersigned are respectfully calling on the Australian Prime Minister, The Hon. Scott Morrison MP, Qantas Group Chairman, Mr. Richard Goyder, Qantas Group Board of Directors, Qantas Group CEO, Mr. Alan Joyce, Airbus Group Chairman, Mr. Rene Obermann, Airbus Group Board of Directors, and Airbus Group CEO, Mr. Guillaume Faury to please acknowledge and recognise, Qantas Captain Kevin 'Sully' Sullivan (Ret.), First Officer Peter Lipsett, and Second Officer Ross Hales, for saving the lives of 315 passengers and crew onboard Qantas Flight 72 on October 7, 2008. Against all odds, these courageous men skillfully pulled off one of the most remarkable near-death escapes in aviation history when they critically handled and recovered a falling aircraft from the sky not once but twice when all they could see was the Indian Ocean. Their selfless act, courage, and cool-headed actions under extreme pressure ensured the lives of 315 passengers and crew was safely back in their hands. 119 passengers were injured, twelve seriously, in what was described by many of the passengers as the "Terror Flight from Hell!" Sullivan a born American (who calls Australia his home) is a former U.S. Navy Top Gun fighter pilot. Sullivan had no option but to execute a military manoeuvre to safely land the Qantas Airbus A330 aircraft. A move that was familiar territory for Sullivan having practiced it many times in the Navy for similar situations. In doing so, he and his crew cautiously avoided the possibility of another sudden nosedive which would have been catastrophic and fatal. Sullivan now medically retired faces an uphill battle in dealing with the struggles of managing his chronic PTSD constantly every day as a direct result of Qantas Flight 72. This extraordinary human being has certainly gone above and beyond the call of duty and has certainly ticked all the boxes. A very modest and well-respected citizen, Sullivan downplays his heroics acknowledging that it was a team effort just doing their jobs. Below are some of the many written testimonies from passengers acknowledging Sullivan and his men for their heroism. Names have been withheld with respect to their privacy at this time. Your courage, expertise, and experience saved my young family’s life. You are all heroes! The crew absolutely exercised tremendous intelligence, skill, and professional composure to bring us home to our extended loved ones on that day. You should be all extremely proud of yourselves dealing with such arduous circumstances. Please uphold the faith in your judgment and ability, as you all saved many people that day. I spoke to the Pilot immediately following our emergency landing and although he was physically shaken and drained his first reaction was for the passengers and he traveled through the plane talking to the passengers and calming them. Again our deepest thanks and appreciation to your wonderful crew who were totally professional and deserve public recognition from the company for their actions. I am writing to thank you for saving the lives of my treasured daughters. If it weren’t for the swift skilled actions of the Captain and the care of the crew, their lives could have been cut short. Award Recommendations: The Qantas Chairman's Diamond Award - Awarded for valour and/or selflessness so extraordinary, that the reputation of the airline has been enhanced in the eyes of other Qantas staff and the Australian public. The Cross Of Valour (CV) - is awarded only for acts of conspicuous Courage in circumstances of extreme peril. It is the highest Australian Bravery Decoration and the highest civilian Bravery award in Australia. Petition to Canal & River Trust

Canal & Rivers Trust - suspend the continuous cruising distance rules for COVID-19

Canal 'continuous cruisers' live aboard their boats and are required to travel a minimum distance each year. During this period of COVID-19 crisis, many continuous cruisers may want or need to stay put in one particular area because of self-isolation, family needs, ease of shopping and supplies or other reasons. The C&RT Licensing Officers can make helpful decisions in individual cases, however, due to the current and future scale of the crisis, it would be easier for boaters and much less strain on C&RT staff resources to instigate a blanket suspension, We are asking that C&RT suspend the minimum distance requirements until at least the end of June 2020, so that that period is not counted in the 12 month assessment of distance moved. We are not asking for blanket suspension of normal 14 day or shorter mooring limits, nor of the rules against 'shuffling' up and down the canal.
