Cumberland County Animal Control is considering an adoption ban that would affect Dobermans, Rottweilers, Chow Chows, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Pitbulls, Mastiffs, Akitas, Huskies, or any mix of these breeds.
Although Dr. John Lauby, Animal Control director, has stressed lately that it is a limitation of breed-specific adoptions rather than a ban, the proposal goes on to say that a county resident would not be allowed to adopt one of these breeds.
Their reason for this proposal is they do not want to be held liable for these breeds and the possible problems with them after adoption from the shelter.
We need to let them know that this is not the answer.
These dogs will be held for the mandatory 72 hours and then will be killed, THEY WILL NOT BE GIVEN A CHANCE TO BE ADOPTED.
