Corporations are destroying 51% of their IT assets because they are concerned with data security. This volume of electronic waste is partially recycled with the remaining e-waste going into landfills all over the globe. This e-waste can contain special metals, chipboards and other contaminants that enter the local water supply and cause further pollution.
We want corporations to reuse, resell or donate 100% of their IT assets. They should take shredding completely off the table. There should be government penalties for every pound of e-waste that is not fully recycled.
Corporations need to implement stricter reuse/recycling methods (Apple has - you don't see Apple phones in landfills) on their e-waste. Corporations shred their IT assets because it is a cheap and easy disposal method but it is causing far-reaching environmental impacts.
Join us in asking Congress, POTUS, Fortune 500 CEOs and the NSA to ban the physical destruction of IT assets and create a goal of 100% reuse/donations for computers, laptops, desktops and servers.
