My Town Hates Kids - Let’s Change That!

My town hates kids. :(At least that is what it feels like to us kids.My name is Markus and I live on Laurel Ave in Kingston NJ. I am 10 years old and go to school up the street.The problem here is that people use this road as a highway and go super fast. Someone is going to get hurt. No one knows it’s a school zone here.Is it that hard to put a few signs and paint the road like they do in all my friend’s neighborhoods?I see thousands of bikes on the street and cars are acting crazy around them. Why are trucks with tons of rocks going faster than cars down the road? That is messed up!Some houses have sidewalks and some don’t so the sidewalks go nowhere. How am I supposed to get to school or go down the street to get an ice cream when cars are driving on the sidewalk that is there?No one stops to let kids cross. That’s just weird.When I go to other schools, they are safer, they have markings and I even see people helping kids cross. They have ‘SCHOOL’ written all over the roads in really big letters and really big school signs. Seems like they don’t have to worry people driving like idiots. Their town’s like kids.All my neighbors asked for help and no one came so I made this petition. Can you sign my petition to get something finally done? Please?We need: School zone signsSidewalks on both sides of the street – only 5 houses need them to be connectedBike Sharrows – those painted bicycles on the road to share with carsEmbedded reflectors or curbsAnd for crying out loud, how about cutting the weeds off the speed signs so people know what to do? See the accidents and thousands of cars and trucks acting crazy here: www.NoPatrol.com The problem: several accidents in one video: https://youtu.be/HUlmtV7gGQ4 additionally: - Reclassify Laurel ave as the Neighborhood Road as it historically was. Homes are feet from the road where horse and carriages would let homeowners off without needing to pull into narrow properties or turn where a carriage couldn’t. Raising the road classification past a safe level for trucks and cut through traffic in spite of resident wishes was done for industry that doesn’t belong in the area. There are safer routes to guide traffic without disrupting the lives and safety of a historic village -(PSE&G who owns the power poles in our area has one planted in the way of a crosswalk that needs to be installed for the School. It was installed long after the historic school was there.. we have added Ralph-Izzo the CEO of PSE@G to have him move his pole for the kids since others in PSEG won’t respond. ) -Drop Church and Union roads on both sides of Laurel ave to 15mph. Church is a 1 way blind curve cut through road with historic homes only feet from the road in the neighborhood of this school. Union runs along the school where children let out and are dropped off. To have the speed at the same limit as a major county collector road is ridiculous on the part of Franklin Township NJ -Mark Union street in front of the School with painting the road with (School Zone) and put up school zone signs in front of the school and near Shaw rd in front of the park. thanks for your help and please-please share with anyone who you think can help get my story out
