Yukon Department of Education: Build an on-site gym structure for students during FH's rebuild.

Building an on-site gym structure is important for FH students because: (a) the gym is the heart of a school; (b) students can use it for gym class, extracurricular and lunch activities on site instead of having no option or spending time in a bus; (c) the school gets a permanent asset instead of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on busing during reconstruction.

Please build an on-site gym space for students during FH's rebuild.

Sincerely,

An on-site gym is essential for maintaining a positive attitude towards learning within the student body, for good health outcomes (physical and mental), and for school spirit (sports teams, gatherings, etc.). It cannot be replaced by off-site bussing.

I as a student enjoy the gym during my lunch break. I don't know where we would go if we have no gym.

Besides the reasons given by many of the other signatories, what is the cost of all those buses, all that gas and all that wasted time sitting in a bus?

Kids these days have way more electronic devices than they ever did. They are more sedentary than previous generations and for the first time, because of rising obesity rates, parents may outlive their children. With that said, is leaving the high school without a gym for 2 1/2 really the best idea? I think not. Even prisoners in jail have gyms! Why on earth would a decision to leave the kids without a gym even be considered?? Please figure it out, and quickly.

Having access to a gym keeps a lot of kids safe.
