Walt Disney Company: Stop Blaming Rape Victims, And Start Changing Your Approach To Employees Who Experience Sexual Assault

Every year the Walt Disney Company employs hundreds of college students through its Disney College Program. These teenagers and young adults work at the Disney theme parks and live in Disney-owned housing; they are effectively full-time residents of a Disney-managed community.

Disney's approach to employee sexual assault has been to tell their female employees not to drink with male employees, not to go out with them after dark, not to go to their apartments, and not to dress provocatively. When confronted with a report of sexual assault, Disney has blamed the victim instead of the agressor, and demonstrated a shocking lack of care towards members of their community who have been harmed and may be in crisis. This is absolutely unacceptable.

The Walt Disney Company needs to change their entire approach to employee sexual assault. They need to drastically improve their process and policy for reporting employee misconduct (including harassment and assault). They need to cover this information during staff training, and make sure the information is easily accessible by employees at all levels of their organization.

I am disappointed and disgusted at Disney's failure to provide support for victims of sexual assault. For people like them to go and blame the victim for what happened in my opinion, is more disgusting than what happened to the victim.

Women should be fairly treated and respected. It is clear that Disney is abdicating responsibility in the protection of their employees

Because Disney can do better and I swear to God, EVERYONE I know will hear about this. Because what sane parent would bring their child, their little girl to a rape-profiting company? Not I, and I'm not even sorry.

Stop telling women to "not get raped", start telling men to "not rape". It's that fucking simplr.

Disney can become a leader in fighting rape culture and victim blaming.
