Do not Bring Walmart to Sherwood, Oregon

      Sherwood, OR

The trend of mega-mergers and huge chains is wiping out small business everywhere, and with it the distinctiveness of local cultures. Not just in the U.S., but all over this great varied planet. Chains are everywhere, and who benefits? Not the small business, not the small town, not the individual - only a few guys pretty high up in the chain's food chain. Consider: Wal-Mart's annual sales are larger than the entire Gross Domestic Product of 161 countries! Do the Wal-Math: They are bigger than most nations, yet they have no government that answers to the people it affects. They are unaccountable to anyone. Sherwood is a "home town" community. We don't want and don't need a Super Walmart.

Putting the greed of one above the interests demonstrates a lack of integrity. How do Sherwood citizens trust their local governing body in future decisions?

We need companies that invest in AMERICA not CHINA. Pay a livable wage with benefits to all employees. We also need to fix the traffic problem on Tualatin-Sherwood road before we add more traffic!

Small town buisnesses are going to crash under Wal-Mart and all the other stores that are supposed to occupy this new development. Why not work on repairing roads, making Tualatin-Sherwood a 2 lane both ways street, or even fixing my street which is all gravel in the middle of downtown sherwood?!

I lived 15 years in Sherwood and both my children graduated from Sherwood High School. It does not need a Walmart. Walmart does not bring good jobs, but jobs that pay less than a living wage. Do not support Walmart or bring its poison to Sherwood.
